Who Was Anna Nicole Smith?

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Anna Nicole Smith was one of those celebrities who were known to be famous simply for being famous. Another public figure we all know today and who is also famous for being famous is, of course, Paris Hilton.

Anna Nicole was born on November 28, 1967 in Houston, Texas and was named Vickie Lynn Hogan. She was one of six children and her mother, a deputy sheriff, single-handedly cared for her after divorcing her husband.

Smith started her career as a topless dancer in Houston, then made her first appearance in Playboy in 1992 and eventually earning the title of Playmate of the Year months later.

In 1994 Anna Nicole married J. Howard Marshall ll. There was really nothing unusual about this marriage, except that he was 89 years old, and owner of Great Northern Oil Co. His personal wealth was estimated to be $550 million. He also died 14 months later.

A feud then started between Marshall’s son, E. Pierce and Anna Nicole Smith over Howard Marshall’s vast estate valued at over a billion and a half dollars. The case has since reached the U.S. Supreme Court, and till today the case is still pending. E. Pierce has since died, but his family has vowed to continue the fight.

In 2002 Nicole launched her own reality show on tv called, “The Anna Nicole Show,” on the E! Entertainment network which became, at one point, it’s highest rated program.

In recent months, Anna Nicole Smith has been embroiled in a number of lawsuits and disputes.

MLM - Why Most People DO NOT and WILL NOT Make More Money Than They Will Spend - Part Five

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

There are so many psychological “techniques” that the upper hierarchy of a Multi Level Marketing company will use against you to “keep you in line” or under their influence. These techniques are designed to force you to do things against your will.

The biggest WEAPON that the upline will use to KEEP YOU UNDER THEIR SPELL will be to play the guilt trip over LOYALTY to the group.

For those who have never experienced the controlling techniques of MLM upline manipulators, you can’t even imagine how powerful that Ace is when it lands on the table. Talk about committing high treason!

For example:

“You are not setting a good example for your group.”

or

“You need to show leadership and buy your way over this level so your group can see you on stage as a high achiever.”

or

“You have to promote these tools and get all your group to the function. If YOU don’t do it then neither will they. The group needs to see YOU doing it.”

and the daddy of them all:

“You must EDIFY all your upline.

God! The people in the upline were only there because they joined BEFORE you, NOT because they were a great leader or had ANY talent at all. In fact, some were pathetic dweebs but you HAD to tell all those under you how wonderful they were. That was an ORDER not a suggestion.

The so-called “counseling” sessions were full of making you feel guilty for letting the team down. Everybody copped liberal doses of it.

All MLM’s make use of this. They will make you feel guilty for having an opinion other than that of the almighty upline.

And let’s face it, all the upline ever wanted was to keep the money machine cranking. They would do or say anything to vacuum the cash upwards.

Some MLM’s are nothing more than a cult. Where’s the cordial?

With respect to loyalty, nobody likes to be branded a dissident or a traitor to the cause. And MLM is a cause. I have been in some that certainly behave like a coven or a cult.

The Grand Poobah is all powerful. He can do anything or say anything and everybody has to accept and applaud it. Those who don’t are watched and singled out for intensive “counseling.”

There is so much psychology tied up in MLM and most of it is negative (in my opinion!).

Finding the “hot” button for a distributor is all part of it. For some that is greed, for others praise or something else but when all else fails the thing that always works is the notion of “letting down the team.”

Nobody wants to do that. Soldiers die for it.

They (the upline) will say: “You want to build this business for your wife/husband/children don’t you? Are you willing to let them down?” How often I heard those words being used. Is that a guilt trip? I certainly think so.

I don’t know anybody who likes to be singled out as “letting down the team.”

Much of the foundation of MLM is based on loyalty to the group. Each distributor has to do or be seen to do the group thing. That is what the king-pins prey on. How can anybody make serious money under that sort of pressure?

The Value of Your Credit Score

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

What is the value of your credit score? Do you know? Your credit score can open doors for you with the same clout you get from having money in the bank. And it can save you a lot of money over time.

I work as a Mortgage Loan Officer and I have seen the price that people pay for not maintaining their credit health. I see people pay daily in higher interest rates for all that they buy because they haven’t kept their credit score healthy.

Let me give you just a few examples.

Let’s say you purchased a new home worth $150,000. If your credit score is not in good health then at today’s rate you will pay $354 a month more for your house payment than you would have to pay if your credit score was healthy.

And if you did that for only two years and then you were able to refinance, because you had improved your credit scores, you would still have paid a total of $8496.00 more than the person with good credit scores. And, what if you had to pay this extra amount for the full 30 years of your loan, you would have paid $127,444 more than the person that started their loan out with good credit scores.

Think about what you could have done with this extra money had you not squandered it on an unnecessary expense.

The extra expense doesn’t stop with just your house payment. Insurance companies will charge you more for your house insurance because your credit scores are not good.

Automobile dealers will charge you a higher interest rate if your credit scores are low. I was working with a lady on a home mortgage and during that process found that she was paying 24% interest on her car and didn’t even realize it. After improving her credit score just 40 points she was able to get a new car and save $120 a month on her car payment.

Cell phone dealers will require a large deposit before you can have cell phone service if your credit scores are not good.

Credit card companies will not only charge a higher interest rate they will charge sizeable annual fees and may also require a deposit before issuing a credit card.

If you want to borrow money to start a business, send the kids to college or maybe do some real estate investing you will have a very hard time getting investors to extend you credit if your credit score does not deem you credit worthy.

It is difficult to get through life in this day and time without buying anything on credit. Neighbors no longer get together and build you a house. It is hard to walk everywhere you need to go. Cash is not accepted for internet purchases.

If you are a young person starting out, guard your credit score like it was gold. It will serve you well throughout your life.

If you are well into your life cycle and life’s circumstances has not allowed you to keep your credit score healthy then attack that problem with a vengeance. You can turn things around. You can restore the health of your credit score. It will be one of the best gifts you have every given yourself.

A Beka Home Schooling

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

The A Beka curriculum is a very popular choice for many homeschooling families. It is also used in quite a few Christian schools across the country.

The A Beka Books were developed at Pensacola Christian College. They are based on experience and information gathered over a period of fifty years in the classrooms of Pensacola Christian Academy by many writers. They are unique in that they do not use any currently published works for their curriculum, but instead research and develop their own. Dr. and Mrs. Arlin Horton are the founders of A Beka Book, and the series is named after Mrs. Horton, whose first name is Rebeka.

The A Beka home school curriculum is fundamentally Christian based. The main goal of this program is to ground children in the Christian faith. Every aspect and subject points toward the Christian worldview. It is a workbook based curriculum and is very detailed. It goes step by step through each concept and is very comprehensive. This is a good curriculum for those home school families who are very organized or need a highly structured program.

There are three choices when working with the A Beka Book home school program. There is the A Beka Academy DVD option, which provides two options. The first is the Fully Accredited College Preparatory Program in which A Beka keeps all of the records. The second is the Non-Accredited program in which the parent keeps all the records. Each covers the exact same material. The only difference is the price. Basically, in addition to the workbooks, the DVDs feature teachers who help to explain the subjects in greater detail.

The second option is the A Beka Academy Traditional Parent-Directed option. This is a fully accredited college prep program. A Beka provides you with teacher manuals that explain exactly how to follow and teach the curriculum. You teach the material and A Beka keeps your records for you. It is very much like a traditional school without the school building. You send in all of the work and tests and they grade them and issue a report card. There is an academic calendar along with progress reports. This is much the same as the DVD option minus the DVDs.

The third option is the Textbooks/Materials for Home Schooling. This is simply the curriculum. There is no other involvement from A Beka besides the materials. You will keep all the records and set your own pace. You can order the entire program or just the items that you feel are appropriate for your child. Many parents who choose this option will use parts of another curriculum along with the A Beka materials.

A Beka Book is a good choice for home school families. It is very Biblically based and structured. It sets a strong foundation during the early years in core subjects such as reading and math, and continues to challenge students all the way through high school. The A Beka Book home school curriculum is a great tool with which to teach your child and offers many options.

Volvo Still Rules Estate Car Segment With New V70

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Large estate cars, known for their luxury and the versatility to accommodate a growing family, have been the best selling cars of Volvo. Their previous models like the Volvo Duett, Volvo 245 and the Volvo 745 have all been popular with the car manufacturer’s loyal buyer base.

And from the genes of such great estate cars come a new breed that will further cement the company to that top spot of the mentioned segment. The new Volvo V70 comes with so many improvements that it seems like the Ford Motor Company owned brand covered all the bases just like a Volvo car cover does when it jackets all the parts of the vehicle.

The company has 54 years of experience in the development and production of such vehicles and it shows in the ever improving luxury wagons that they produce. Their confidence in their mass produced estate car is summed up by Volvo Cars President and CEO Fredrik Arp when he stated that, “This segment has been our specialty ever since we invented it back in the 1950’s. Our competitors can count on us remaining number one in the future too.” He is confident that they would still be on top of the market for a long time because of the Volvo V70 which he had described to give “rear passengers and luggage both ride in first class”.

Their continuing dedication to producing estate cars is due to the fact that the demand for such cars is increasing as their performance gets better and better. The primary reason for the increase in size of the estate car segment is the changing preference of many car buyers which opts for these large and versatile cars instead of the less roomy sedan. Switching to a luxury wagon from a sedan does not sacrifice the driving dynamics and the comfort of the occupants. The versatility of the estate car and its much roomy interior is its best advantage over the sedan. And today, the focus in choosing an estate car is design and comfort which the company strived to give to their Volvo V70. As a matter of fact, the car manufacturer even expects that half of the number of people that will buy their Volvo V70 will not be actually a person with a growing family.

What the new Volvo V70 brings to the table is a totally new design brought about by the use of the design team of a new vehicle architecture technique. For the first time in the model’s history it will sport a six-cylinder engine and it would also offer a wide array of engine choices. Consumers can choose from two gasoline engines - a diesel engine or a bio-ethanol powered engine. All these engines are engineered to perform to its highest potential with a complementing lineup of high performance parts. The new Volvo V70 has an improved front seat comfort over its predecessors, thanks to an improved cushioning of the seats and ergonomically designed instruments and console. The car also sports a high-end audio system for the user’s listening pleasure.

Versatility is what this estate car and it is evident in the 40/20/40 rear seat split configuration makes it the most versatile and flexible vehicle of its kind, add to that a convenient cargo loading feature. It features a sliding cargo floor that allows for convenient loading of luggage. A power liftgate is also an optional feature that further increases the convenience of the user in terms of loading cargoes. To ensure that the cargo should have a comfortable ride just like the vehicle’s passengers - every detail in the compartment and all the accessories included are designed to give the correct feeling of luxury and comfort.

Google’s New Technique For Ranking Pages - Latent Semantic Indexing and Analysis

Friday, September 15th, 2006

Latent Semantic Indexing means that a search engine tries to associate certain terms with concepts when indexing web pages. For example, Tiger and Woods are associated with golf, Paris and Hilton are associated with a woman instead of a city and a hotel.

If you search for a keyword on Google and add a tilde ~ before the search term, then you get an idea of what Google thinks about a search term. For example, if you do a semantic search for phone, Google returns Nokia as the first result. A normal search for phone returns different results. Adding a tilde to the search term seems to instruct Google to do a semantic search.

Google has been using this concept to determine suitable ads for its AdSense service for some time now. It seems that Google is now also using this concept to improve the quality of its search results.

Why is this important to your website promotion and search engine optimisation activities?

As appears likely, if Google uses this concept in its ranking algorithm then you should not focus on a single keyword, but on a set of related keywords with your search engine optimization activities. You should optimize some of the pages on your web site for keywords that are synonymous with the keyword you’re targeting.

Latent semantic indexing helps search engines to find out what a web page is all about. It basically means to you that you shouldn’t focus on a single keyword when optimizing your web pages and when getting links.

The web pages on your web site should be related and focus mainly on a special topic while using different words that describe the topic. Use variations of your keyword and synonyms. That makes it easier for search engines to determine the topic of your site.

So what should you be doing now that you were not doing before? Simply: nothing. Your pages should be content rich and about the intended subject. Written naturally and for the intention of being useful, a web page will naturally rank well even in Latent Semantic Indexing world. Of course, if you’ve been naughty, and been keyword stuffing your pages…. you might be in trouble. That’s not to say that you should pay no attention to the keyword density or keyword frequency in your pages, if fact you should be paying even more attention, and this is where an experienced search engine optimiser starts to show their quality.

Stop Thief, Are You Next?

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Your possessions may mean a lot to you, probably more than you think especially if you were to have them stolen. To a thief your prized belongings are nothing more than a quick and easy way to get their hands on some cash. A television, DVD player or a music system can be replaced but items of a sentimental nature cannot.
Every year Police recover large amounts of property worth millions but have no way of knowing how to get the property back to their rightful owners. There are, however some simple and cost effective steps you can take to help get your property back and also make them less attractive to steal in the first place.

The simplest way is to use a security marker like an ultra-violet marker pen. This can put an invisible mark on your property, which can only be seen clearly by using a special UV lamp.

Engraving or etching is suitable for many surfaces using an electronic engraving tool or hand engraver.

Ceramic marking pens have been designed to mark china, glass or any glazed surface. However this will leave a permanent mark and will affect the value of any antiques.

Punching is an ideal method for security marking for metal lawn mowers, barbeques, or bicycles. This method is done with a hammer and a set of punches.

Some electrical products enable you to record your details in their memory. Some televisions give you the option to input your postcode, which is then displayed on the screen every time you turn the television on.

Whatever method you choose there is more risk to a thief to handle items that have been marked. It is also harder for them to sell on, as the item can’t easily be resold if people see someone else’s postcode has been engraved on the item. You can help put thieves off by displaying stickers that say the items have been marked, these usually come supplied with security marking pens and engraving kits. Place the notices anywhere that a burglar may gain entry. It is also a good idea to keep a list of all your valuable property and serial numbers and where you marked them. Marking your property is only one part of the overall process in protecting you, your home and your property.

These measures should be in conjunction with other security measures like a home security alarm, high security window locks, security cameras (CCTV) it all helps to prevent your home from being the next crime scene

Pitching Burnout in Baseball In Youth Baseball

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

At one time or another, a pitcher can have a tired or stale arm. This can happen on the youth level just as it happens on the professional level.

In youth baseball, pitchers are even more susceptible, especially during All-Star time if pitching rules are relaxed and pitchers are able to pitch more innings. There are a number of things a manager and parents can do during the season so as to not burn out, or even possibly injure a pitcher’s arm.

Loosening up is very important before a pitcher throws one pitch. The expression “warm up to pitch, don’t pitch to warm up” is very relevant. For example, if you have ever noticed the great relief pitcher for the New York Yankees, Mariano Rivera. When he is called on to pitch, he goes through a stretching and loosening up routine for five or ten minutes before he even picks up a ball.

During the regular season, managers, coaches and even parents should pay more attention to a player’s pitch count rather than the number of innings pitched. Every player is different, but the manager should use some sort of guideline to determine how many pitches are enough for a particular player.

A few years ago the American Sports Medicine Institute did a study sending surveys to orthopedic surgeons and coaches around the country. They recommended for 11-12 year-old pitchers a maximum of 68 pitches with two days recovery. This might seem very conservative. The study also stated that conditioning of the arm and entire body can reduce injury.

Another issue facing the youth baseball pitcher is dual leagues, or playing for his school and an outside league. It is always a good idea for the manager to make contact with the school coach. Let him know that you understand that the school team is the priority and that you want to be aware of how much the player is pitching. Responsible school coaches should be able to give you the amount of innings and pitch count for a player throughout the season.

Baseball seasons are increasing in length at the youth league level. All-Star games and the popularity of fall baseball all add up. There is potential for pitchers to do harm to their arms. Loosening up and stretching are a must. It is up to the manager, coaches, and parents to look out for the long-term interest in their player, rather than overpitching him to win one particular game.

A Few Simple Ways to Burn Your Calories

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

It is not always necessary to run 15 miles each day to burn some real calories. It may be tiring as well as boring doing the same thing every morning. A better idea is to engage oneself in physical activity each and every week. This way you will be able to create a solid base to ensure that you can build a successful exercise program. The following simple exercises can be included as a part of that program. It is important to know how the calories are burned during an activity. It depends on both the weight of the person, as well as the intensity. The following are estimates for the number of calories burned for an average 150 pound person during an hour of activity.

  • If you are walking briskly, expect to burn about 300 calories.
  • Basketball is a great way to spend calories. You can burn well over 450 calories in an hour.
  • If you have to clean your house, why not do it with optimism? Light cleaning consumes about 240 calories an hour.
  • Do you have a green thumb? Yes, gardening uses about 324 calories!
  • Golfing on the weekends is a favorite pastime of many. 385 calories are burned if you carry your clubs! Forefront!
  • Put a stationary bike in front of the television. You’ll be burning 380 calories an hour while you catch up on the latest news.
  • Are you a fan of the aerobics class at the local gym? Great if you are, because this activity uses 405 calories for just an hour of sweating.
  • Also, that elliptical trainer can burn an amazing 630 an hour!!
  • Even ping-pong has healthy benefits! This activity uses 280 calories per hour.

Apart from the above ways of burning calories, there are some other activities doing which we start burning calories unknowingly. Like a mother or a person with children knows that chasing after these little ones can burn calories. The number probably depends on just how wild that kid is, but that can certainly count. Hey, if nothing else, even sleeping burns calories. You’ll be using up 45 for just an hour! But that’s not an excuse to take a nap! Actually being active as much as you can is the master key to weight loss success as well as leading a healthy life. No dieting or medicine can cover up the requirement of physical activity or exercise if you are considering a healthy lifestyle or a good shape of your body.

Burn those extra calories. Follow the simple ways to bring positive change in your life style to ensure a healthy life and beautiful body and mind. You can make it a success, as we say where there is a will, there is a way.
