Take Me to the Sun

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Our space program has received in recent times new encouragement from the Administration and also has been made to suffer the negative publicity created by one of its brave, but passionate female astronauts, or is it astronautress?

Our president has mentioned his wish to see a major plan developed by NASA to conquer space, and to undertake major missions to the moon and to the planet Mars. He wants to revive the enthusiasm and vitality of the Astronaut corps and the interest of the public. Space continues to be a great attraction for people of all ages and a jump-off station on the moon is certain to keep the world with their eyes – or telescopes – on our satellite.

In a recent visit to the Space center in Houston, his ideas went beyond a simple moon walk. The moon has lost some of its allure; after all, even Tom Hanks has been there.

In a conversation with the Center’s Head of Public Relations he disclosed some of his ideas. She swears that her account of the conversation the President had with the Chief of the Johnson Space Lab is true:

“Chief, I hope you heard my State of the Union speech. Space continues to be the most attractive adventure for the human race. We are in a position to make the next move.”

“I am glad to hear you say that, Mister President”

“You see, we can start with the Moon station, next we embark on the Mars adventure and then we go to the sun!”

The Chief removed his sunglasses and said:

“The Sun? Mister President, that is going to be difficult to accomplish. It’s hot out there!”

“Not if you go at night”"

Webpage Templates-Best Answer For Your Website Design?

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Considering that most small business websites are not particularly complex there are reasons that webpage templates are the easiest and least expensive solution to website design.

If a business does not have national or international scope the SEO becomes less relevant. So you don’t need major emphasis on keywords, tags, html, and links. Which means you would do much better coupling your webpresence with telephone directory and signage than SEO expertise.

If a business has more static content than constantly changing services, merchandise, or information then content management doesn’t need a webmaster. Content Managment Systems can be handled by the small business personnel or owner. CMS systems can be found in webpage templates or such platforms as WordPress Themes on the free host at WordPress.

Many businesses don’t want to pay a designer to compose an original webpage. This might be especially true if the business would benefit from Flash elements, good art and photowork, fonts and logs, possibly a great soundtrack and motion - which can be prohibitively expensive, and usually needs continued management by a webmaster. In this case a business can choose from hundreds of already designed webpage templates that may need only a few alterations if at all.

Also, considering many designers of original pages charge dearly for their services, it is probably a better idea to use a template. Most designers adopt a look or style of layout and specialization from which
they have essentially made their own templates, which are then individualized to a particular customer’s wishes.

So, for the local and regional business that can manage their own content and make their own periodic changes by CMS - a template is usually the best answer. Especially if they can find a template that looks and sounds great. This means the owner only needs to replace the photos and texts examples in the template.

    Acne Home Remedy

    Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

There are many acne home remedy solutions that can help prevent and treat acne problems.

Acne has become the most treated skin condition. Many people are looking for easy and fast ways to control acne, largely because of the embarrassment and low self esteem acne problems can cause.

A common trend today is that most people suffering of acne often ask help from a dermatologist who many times will prescribe antibiotics and some over the counter products that have proven unfavorable side effects.

And knowing that a number of over the counter acne treatments have side effects you may want to avoid, it’s critical to know that there are proven acne home remedy solutions available to you. Some of these treatments for acne need to be prepared at home, while others are readily available for use.

    Acne Home Remedy Solutions:

    • Colloidal silver - One of the most commonly suggested acne home remedies today, colloidal silver is regarded as a natural antibiotic. You can take it orally and some experts recommend this form of acne treatment to be applied directly on the affected area for a much better result. It can be mixed with water or juice; however, it is very necessary to note that it is a dietary supplement and is not intended for medicinal use.

    • Garlic capsules - Considered a powerful acne control solution, garlic capsules boost your immune system and can kill the bacteria found in acne. The Kyolic Reserve Aged Garlic Extract Capsules, taken as a dietary supplement, is noted for being odorless and it also can improve your cholesterol levels.

    • Tea tree oil - A natural antibiotic, tea tree oil is a very effective acne solution in that it destroys a wide range of invading microorganisms without any side effects.

    • Burdock root and dandelion root - These herbs are now commonly used for skin care and to kill the bacteria found in acne.

    • Lavender oil - Acne and eczema have been successfully treated with lavender. It can be applied directly to your acne to soothe your skin and prevent acne from spreading.

Vitamins and nutritional supplements are also effective acne home remedy solutions. In particular, vitamin A may help to decrease the level of sebum production.

But, some reports have found that high doses of vitamin A can cause a variety of health problems, including; a decrease in bone density, birth defects, headache, and muscle and joint pain. So it is worth noting that vitamin A supplementation may not be important if there is adequate intake of beta-carotene, vitamin E, and zinc.

Studies show that Vitamin E can help in skin repair and can be used as an acne scar treatment. Being an antioxidant, Vitamin E may protect the cell membranes from potential damage and can help in the reduction of scars left by acne.

Another great acne home remedy is zinc. Zinc is proven to prevent acne and it helps to heal blotches and reduces inflammation of the skin. But like Vitamin A, zinc can be harmful when it is taken in high doses for it can be toxic.

So to avoid any complications, always consult a doctor BEFORE using supplements and herbs, especially if you are already taking other medications or supplements. A knowledgeable herbalist or alternative medicine practitioner will also be able to provide information on drug interactions or possible side effects.

I step out onto the dust
    feel it touch my sins.
I know its time to move forward.
I thrive in the mystery of what can be.
I fold up all the symptoms of regret.
    I see its torment.
    I speak wisely to myself
    and yet
    I know myself too well.
I will stand before my paintings
    brush in hand
    ready for the strokes
    I touch another dimension
    I hold its mystery.
    I sing to the music
    hear its intrusion
    it soaks up discontent.
    I wipe my brow
    I take cotton
    wipe the blood away.

    I struggle unwisely at times.
No way to move past corners.
I wake up to what could be
    host it all with coffee.
I sit and plan my stride.
    I reach inside my pocket
    full of lint.
    ‘Stop it!”
    I say.
    Stop all the disbelief
    and contend with unpainted canvases.
    They wait
they decide my fate if I let them.
I coat myself with vinegar and soap
I will wash away these nightmares
    thirteen times.
    Oh and yet no
    toss and turn
    who will I be today?

    Blankets cover up potential
    sure things.
    Sentimental musings

    blinded by the knowledge
    of well meant affirmations.
    Clearly I am allowed
    allow myself
    to come into a vision.
    Yes, I sigh
    despite my back and forth
    troubled mind
    at times.
    All is well.
That is what I choose for this moment
that is all I need to see.
    Paint on I tell myself.
Dream and make glitter out of nonsense.
Retreat to where I know I am magic.

    Satellite Navigation: A Dangerous Gadget?

    Saturday, November 18th, 2006

Do you have a satellite navigation system? They are great - right? Not always, or so it may seem to certain transport drivers.

And satellite navigation systems are now common place in a lot of cars. Not only that but lorries and other transport vehicles use satellite navigation. But things don’t always go smoothly. One lorry driver has left a trail of destruction to the value of $100,000 after a wrecking spree, which caused damage to seven cars.

The driver was using his satellite navigation system. His lorry was loaded with 23 tons of goods. Using the satellite navigation system, he took a wrong turn into a no-through road. He tried to perform a U-turn and demolished not only a small round-about but also two cars - a Peugeot and a Volkswagen. As the driver carried on driving his vehicle he did not realize that the Volkswagen was firmly attached to the side of his lorry. He then went on to hit a Mazda, a Renault, a Vauxhall, a Nissan, and a box trailer. The later smashed into a Daewoo.

The driver, from Belgium, was later put under arrest on suspicion of dangerous driving. There is a theory that the satellite navigation system was to blame for the carnage. It is thought that the driver may have lost his way having been navigated by the system. Local residences reported that lorries were often getting lost in their part of town and they are concerned that such dangers could cause damage not only to cars but also to people and property.

    Top 10 Best Milkshake Recipes

    Sunday, October 29th, 2006

Is there any drink more fun and refreshing than an ice cold milkshake? I don’t think so. Milkshakes are a part of American food culture and have spread all over the world. Here’s my list of the best milkshake recipe you can find anywhere.

Classic Vanilla Milkshake – Made with vanilla ice cream and vanilla extract. The original “plain” milkshake is still a crowd pleasing favorite. Adding a maraschino cherry on top makes it a little more special.

Old Fashioned Chocolate Milkshake – Made with chocolate or vanilla ice cream (depends on how intense you want the chocolate flavor), milk and chocolate syrup. This is always the second most favorite milkshake flavor. It’s so easy to make and delicious to drink!

I Love Strawberries Milkshake – Made with strawberry ice cream, milk, fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Yum! Makes me ravenous for one just thinking about it.

Purple Cow Milkshake – Made with grape juice, banana and milk. Purple cows are cool (and very rare). This milkshake is a real treat for kids and kids at heart.

Chunky Monkey Milkshake – Made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, banana and instant coffee. This milkshake may cause you to spontaneously get up and do the chunky monkey dance.

Cherry Vanilla Milkshake – Made with vanilla ice cream, maraschino cherries, milk and chocolate syrup. A chocolate covered cherry in your glass.

Shamrock Milkshake – Made with vanilla ice cream, low fat milk, mint extract and green food coloring. Pretty simple milkshake that you can enjoy at home, even though a certain well-known burger place doesn’t make them any more.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Milkshake – Made with creamy peanut butter, milk and chocolate syrup. A nice alternative to a peanut butter sandwich.

Caramel Latte Milkshake – Made with coffee ice cream, milk and caramel syrup. Just as good or better than any drink at your local coffee or donut shop, plus, you can make this at home anytime you’re in the mood to treat yourself with something extra special.

Whoppers Malt Milkshake – Made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate malt syrup and whipped topping. This is the easiest way to make a milkshake that has that old fashioned malt taste.

Natural Selection Speed Date - Hype or True Love?

    Saturday, September 16th, 2006

Just hours after the “Natural Selection Speed Date” event was held on February 7 in New York, commentary and polls sprang up everywhere to discuss the “fairness” of an event wherein wealthy men and beautiful women need only apply.

As for the men, the criteria for wealth ranged from a salary of $200,000.00 for men aged 25 and below to $500,000.00 for men aged 30 and above. A man who was not gainfully employed or did not have a salary within those limits could still qualify with invested assets of at least $1 million or a trust fund of at least $4 million.

The only requirement for the women was that they had to be beautiful, based on the judgment of celebrity matchmaker Janis Spindel. To determine beauty, she required five pictures, nothing more nothing less. No additional information would even be accepted.

According to a blurb on the Pocket Change website, the sponsors of the event, “Pocket Change is honoring the age old union of wealthy men and hot girls. Society has taught us to not publicly acknowledge the obvious - no longer dear friends. Women want money in a man, men want beauty in a woman - this is a factual force of nature. Women don’t ask ‘So, what does he do for a living?’ because they’re interested in his personality and guys don’t ask ‘is she hot?’ because they’re concerned with character. Guys know that money buys them the car, the house and the trophy wife. This genetic cleansing is how the wealthy stay beautiful.”

Wow! What a statement about where we are as a society. While it is true that men are more visual and are thus attracted to women based first on their appearance, what happens when the woman gains weight, becomes ill, or freckles start to show where once there was just creamy, smooth skin? Is she still beautiful or will she be thrown over for a woman who has not gained weight, been stricken by a disease, and has stayed out of the sun to retain her creamy complexion?

And what happens to the man if he loses his job or his investments fail? Does the woman turn her desire to the next man on her list who makes enough money to keep her in the manner in which she is accustomed?

While I do agree that men are attracted by beauty and women don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck, there is much more to relationships and marriage than these two factors. In addition to beauty, which looks different to everyone, and financial provision, which varies from one household to the next, men and women want basically the same thing: to love and to be loved for who they are, not for the money they make or the size of their thighs. No one wants to wake up in the morning only to check their bank account or look in the mirror to see if they will still be married at the end of the day. This world is scary enough without throwing in the uncertainty of love based solely on such measurements.

In any relationship, attraction is based on a variety of qualities. What is attractive to me isn’t the same as what’s attractive to someone else, but attraction that leads to marriage must be based on more than good looks and money to survive. It must be based on trust, mutual respect, shared interests, love that is actively working toward staying in love, a desire to grow and learn about each other as life changes, and so much more.

In all honesty, if men and women want to date based solely on money and looks, that is going to happen whether there is a planned event or not. I do, however, wonder about the final statement made on the Pocket Change website, “This genetic cleansing is how the wealthy stay beautiful.”

How can this be? Doesn’t it take two to make a child? Wouldn’t it logically take both a beautiful woman and a handsome man to create a beautiful child, or does money plus an ugly man plus a beautiful woman make a beautiful wealthy child? You do the math, but there seems to be a flaw in the logic behind that statement.

A couple of quotes sum it up best. First, Bill Wundram, Iowa Quad Cities Times, says, “In the final analysis, love is the only reflection of man’s worth,” and Joanne Woodward, wife of actor and very rich man, Paul Newman, sums it up this way: “Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that’s a real treat.”

In the final analysis, love isn’t just riches and it isn’t just beauty. Don’t worry about your bank account or whether one ear is lower than the other, find a man or a woman who loves you for who you are and do the same in return. There is no better substitute.

Is it Time to Buy a GPS Device?

    Thursday, July 27th, 2006

GPS stands for “Global Positioning System” which utilizes at least three satellites at any given time to help guide you to a destination. In case you’ve been in a dense fog over the past decade, these devices have gotten smaller and cheaper and very portable. So, why do you need one in the first place? Let’s ask a few questions to help you decide:

    • Do you ever travel to places and rent a car?
    • Do you ever need directions to a new restaurant or business meeting?
    • Do you have a new driver, like a teen, in the house?
    • Do you ever get lost while driving?
    • Do you ever need an alternate route because of construction, traffic, etc.
    • Do you ever need to know how to find the nearest bank, gas station, etc.?
    • Do you like really cool gadgets that are wireless? Me too!

Well, the newer GPS can help you with all those items and more. I researched the net before buying mine and have no stock or investment in the one I’m going to describe. You should chose your own to buy, but let me explain more about my choice. It’s called the Garmin Nuvi 360. The following is part of the online review by CNET.

“At 3.8 by 2.0 by 0.8 inches and 5.1 ounces, the Garmin Nüvi 360 is approximately the size of a deck of cards and is truly travel-friendly. But more amazing than its portability is how much Garmin crams into this handheld device. First, as we mentioned earlier, the Nüvi 360 comes with integrated Bluetooth, letting it act as a hands-free unit when paired with a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone. Also new is Garmin Lock, an antitheft feature that disables the device until the user enters a four-digit PIN. Other goodies include preloaded maps of North America, a 3.5-inch touch screen, and an SD expansion slot. Its navigation features include voice-guided directions, a points-of-interest database, automatic routing, text-to-speech functionality, and an optional traffic receiver. Of course, the beauty of the Nüvi line is that the devices double as travel guides.”

That’s pretty cool, right? The guides will show you POI or Points of Interest like local museums, restaurants, hotels, and gas stations. It uses a touch screen and talks you to your destination with your choice of voices and accents. It has a really clear screen and you can place it on your lap or use an adapter to stick it to your windshield. It’s small enough to pack for any trip. The only downside is it does need to be charged if you don’t use the car power cord and it costs between $500 and $600. But you don’t have to subscribe to any additional services or websites and you can download the latest maps as they become available.

As I stated before, I don’t own stock in Garmin so I have no vested interest, other than I like this particular model. Other highly rated GPS devices are made by TomTom, Megellan, Lowrance, Navman. Alpine and Cobra. I obviously prefer the handheld because of easy transportability and the fact they contain their own internal antenna. You can do an Internet search on your own and visit your local electronics store like Best Buy to see for yourself. But I will bet that this will become one of your “must-have” tech toys and you will enjoy traveling even more.

    A Handy GPS System

    Saturday, April 8th, 2006

Today’s modern society means ownership of a bevy of gadgets guaranteed to elevate us to new levels of convenience. What would we do with our cell phones, PDA’s, and Blackberry’s? And now, there’s another handy gadget that sits in our palm; it may be small but it harnesses an enormous amount of power and brings it streaming right to our hands. The Global Positioning System – or GPS system - is the newest of modern gadgets that promises to keep us on the cutting edge of technology.

The GPS system uses the positioning of 24 satellites that circle the earth to pinpoint any location in the world. Having been developed by the United States Department of Defense, the GPS system was initially intended for military use when the first operational satellite was launched in 1978. However, by the mid-90’s, 23 more satellites had been added to the rotation and the modern GPS system was born. Today’s civilian consumers have taken the system and elevated it to ever-growing popularity.

The GPS system of today includes a network of devices used for mapping, navigation, and tracking that has replaced the compass and paper road maps of yesteryear. Users operate their GPS system in a variety of ways – from the computer mapping device to the navigational system available in newer cars.

One part of the GPS system is the GPS receiver – a hand-held device that receives its information from government satellites. Using this information, the GPS receiver does a series of latitudinal and longitudinal calculations that can precisely pinpoint the user’s location. A small screen will literally mark the location of the user amidst a larger map that shows surrounding points of reference. This can be enormously beneficial in a number of situations including the use by outside enthusiasts who frequently camp and hike.

The GPS system that seems to be most in use today is the navigational unit found in modern vehicles. While some units are portable and can be transferred from one vehicle to another, there are others that are permanently mounted in newer cars as part of their standard features. This GPS system – when given a specific address – can navigate the driver to their destination including turns, landmarks, and distances of all portions of the trip.

Most importantly, the GPS system of today is one that provides you with the most convenience that is specific to your needs and frequency of use.

Designing an Ocean Wave Hydro Electric Generator Which Can Withstand a 500 Lb Bomb

    Saturday, March 25th, 2006

With all the conflict in the world we must be careful with the infrastructure projects we put into Third World nations. With all the help that the NGOs, world governments and United States of America give we must be realistic with the money we spend and how we spend it. First order of business should not be simply to cure diseases or feed people.

The first order of any human civilization should be clean water that can be used for agriculture, cleanliness and drinking. The next order of business should be proper sewage treatment plants to prevent disease. Next, it makes sense to produce power for the masses and their civilization.

One problem we have seen is when we go in build facilities, infrastructure or teach people to farm; is that wars, terrorism and fighting ruin all that has been built. Therefore on the first three items of business we need to design infrastructure, which can withstand a 500-pound bomb. In other words, we must face reality and be smart about our investments in Third World nations and our goals.

Recently our Online Think Tank ask the question; Can We Build and Design an Ocean Wave Hydro Electric Generator, which can withstand a 500 Lb Bomb. The answer is most likely; No. But we could build a modularized system that can be easily rebuilt as long as parts are available in a very short amount of time. Still the goal in the future should be to build something that is literally bulletproof.

This means just because there is some civil unrest or a war, the infrastructure is still intact. This way things can return to normal very quickly. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
