More Bliss for the Over 50’s - Advice for the Vata Stage of Life

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Three stages of lifeAyurveda describes three phases: Kapha phase (age 0-20), when the body is growing and structuring. Pitta phase (age 20-60); a time for doing and achieving – building a career, raising a family, paying the mortgage. Vata phase (60-120); a time for being, for awakening within.

Transition times and imbalancesIn the same way that there are transition periods between the seasons, for example in Dec/Jan when Vata season is turning into Kapha season, there is a transition time between the stages of life. In the case of the transition to the Vata this can be up to ten years, starting at 50. During any transition, accumulated imbalances can manifest as health problems. For example, in Dec/Jan during the transition from Vata to Kapha season the body tends to be more prone to coughs and colds and flu. So, during transition from Pitta to Vata time of life it is advisable to pay attention to accumulated Vata imbalances to ensure the establishment of a balanced physiology for the coming period.

To balance Vata, do the oppositeThe qualities of vata are dry, cold, rough and irregular, and Vata imbalances can result in restlessness, an unsettled feeling, light interrupted sleep, a tendency to over-exert, fatigue, constipation, anxiety, worry, being underweight. To balance do the opposite: - take rest, be settled (meditation, meals in a settled atmosphere), - better sleep (regular early bedtime and waking time), - take it easy (no rushing, or being caught up in deadlines),- be regular in daily routine (meals on time, sitting after lunch, time to properly digest before eating again),- take Vata-balancing food (warm, moist, heavy, with Vata-balancing spices – tumeric, cumin, fenugreek, asafoetida)

Five subdoshas of VataThe five subdoshas of Vata – Prana, Udana, Samana, Apana, Vyana - operate in specific areas of the body. Prana Vata governs the head and its imbalance may result in respiratory disorders, cognitive problems, tension headaches, worry, anxiety, insomnia. Udana Vata governs tongue and throat and imbalance may lead to disorders of speech and throat, and fatigue. Too much talking, or strain, or overwork, exacerbate Udana Vata. To bring balance have an occasional quiet time. Samana Vata governs absorption and metabolism. Imbalance may result in weak or irregular digestion, anorexia, and bloating. Protect the digestive fire by being sensitive to when food is taken and ‘stoke’ the fire with spices, such as ginger with lemon and salt before the meal. Apana Vata governs elimination, and if out of balance you may experience constipation, diarrhoea, gas, lower back pain, PMS, or prostate problems. To keep the elimination moving well, use Triphala regularly, take stewed fruit with a little ghee and get a short walk or light exercise. Vyana Vata regulates circulation, so symptoms of imbalance can be high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, as well as nervous disorders. Recommendations to balance Vyana vata include regular oil massage, traveling comfortably (with your Vata Tea) and no rushing.

Blissful ageingBalance brings a feeling of joy, of youthfulness and of health, and Vata time of life is a time to be especially aware of what your body tells you. Vata is sensitive to change, and can quickly go out of balance, and come back to balance quickly. Tissues can be infiltrated by excess Vata, especially the Vata tissues – bone, marrow, reproductive fluid - and more so at the Vata time of life. Cracking nails, dry fragile hair and osteo problems can get hold. Recommended are foods nourishing for the bones and which keep Vata settled: hot milk and ghee, cooked dates, nuts and sesame seeds. About thirty minutes regular walk as exercise is very important: Vata types should do this three times a week; Pitta types five times a week and Kapha types seven times a week. After 50, if life is anything less than bubbling bliss, something needs doing to bring more balance. During Vata time of life rasayanas become more important (after 70 panchakarma is less important). Products for balance of:

Vata in general: Maharishi Amrit Kalash, Men’s Rasayana, Women’s Rasayana, Genitrac tabs (MA2) for vitality, Vata Tea, Churna, & Aroma Oil, Sesame oil, Rejuvenation Massage Oils for Men and for Women (especially for Vyana), Revitalising Skin Care Cream, Gandharva Music Prana: Peace of Mind tablets (MA1401), Peace of Mind Aroma Oil, Prana Balancing Aroma, Gandharva especially on Shehnai, Peace at Night tablets (MA107) Udana: Udana Balancing Aroma, Inhalation Oil (and Prana)Samana: Herbal Digest tablets (MA927), Aci-Balance tablets (MA575).Apana: Triphala with Rose (MA505), Apana Balance tablets (MA3347), Digest Mild tablets (MA593), Prostate Balance (MA1595), Apana Balance Aroma. What Anti Aging Clinics Dallas Forgot To Mention

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Anti Aging Clinics in Dallas are among the most sophisticated in
the country, but they don’t know some of the basics. This article
discusses anti aging clinics Dallas and what they didn’t know.

I was looking for anti aging clinics, and found that Dallas
had some of the best ones, with the experts who were recognized
leaders in the country. You can find world class experts in nip and tucks,
and dermatologists with the latest to make your skin look wonderful.

Yet, when I inquired about some basic facts about anti aging,
I found some of the answers were lacking.

They didn’t discuss some new anti aging discoveries because
they were probably too new - and didn’t know that products
and innovations were already on the market.

What didn’t they know? Glutathione and DHA.

You see, these two little substances are among the most
powerful in the body.

DHA is part of Omega-3 oils, the essential one that is
used everywhere in the body. It’s function in the brain
has show to give a 3-10 point gain in IQ when proper
supplementation was given.

The other one is glutathione, the master antioxidant.
It’s the antioxidant that is used by every cell in the body,
to clean up the leftovers after a cell makes energy.

Sadly, our glutathione levels decline with age, and some
speculate it is one of the main reasons we age.

Fortunately, some new discoveries are letting people
restore their glutathione levels, so there is hope
we can now live to 160 in good health.

Uncovering The Oldest Antiaging Secret

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Who among us does not wish to grow old gracefully – with beautiful skin, strong muscles, and, most importantly, a healthy body? Cultures the world over each has their own secrets when it comes to staying young and vital. And the countless department store counters give credence to our quest as a society; displaying row upon row of anti-wrinkle cream, antiaging masks, and the like. Medically speaking, society pops all manner of pills in an effort to hold aging at bay. In all of the madness, it becomes easy to forget the very best antiaging secret – nature’s own.

Living a life of health – of treating our bodies with respect – is the antiaging secret that will far outlast all of those pills and creams. It is a matter of choices – integrated into our daily lives – that will determine our aging process. From the food we eat, to the activity we perform, to the sleep we get – it all works together to decide the path of our futures.

The first antiaging secret that holds by far the most power in determining how we age is diet. Research has shown time and time again that the foods we eat largely determine our body’s ability to fight disease and fight the aging process. A diet heavy in additives, preservatives, and saturated fat will work against our bodies and compromise the natural functions of our body. This can actually speed the process of aging.

Rather, eating a diet rich in vitamins and nutrients feeds the healthy cells of our bodies allowing them work at optimum efficiency. Nurtured by healthy nutrients and antioxidants these cells can keep disease at bay and allow our bodily systems to work efficiently even as we age.

These nutrients will also make themselves known on the outside of our bodies – in the form of glowing skin, shiny hair, and healthy nails and teeth. Drinking plenty of water will also feed healthy skin.

Additionally, exercise is another simple, yet effective, antiaging secret. Make an effort to combine cardiovascular work with strength training to keep muscles strong and to remain flexible throughout aging.

The best antiaging secret is that which works specifically for you. Integrate healthy eating, plenty of rest, consistent exercise, and enjoyable, stress-relieving activities into your life. Aging doesn’t have to leave you old and tired; there are choices!

At Last A Healthy Beer

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

We know that goji berries contain antioxidants, vitamins and some good minerals, so why not have some goji berries with that beer? It could maybe even help you life longer.

A Fort Collins, Colorado-based brewer, New Belgium Brewing can give you just that. It’s called Springboard Ale, and in addition to goji berries, it has schisandra, a Chines medicinal herb and wormwood, a spice that’s said to help with digestion.

But fear not, Spring also has your typical beer ingredients, including plenty of Mt. Hood hops.

What can you do if beer isn’t your thing – even if it does include goji berries?? When it comes to life extension — a fancy way of saying you’d life to live longer — there is just a huge number of healthy drinks available today. In fact, there are so many from which to choose, it can be downright confusing. You can choose from from glacier water, flavored water, water with minerals, drinks with herbs, juices with minerals, green tea, tea with flavoring, water that can energize you, and so on and so on.

Eight glasses of water a day?

The idea behind many of the water drinks is that if you’re a typical American, you’re not drinking enough water. So, if the water is made more appealing – through flavoring – you’ll drink more.

For example, if you’re trying to drink eight glasses of water a day, like those commercials advise, you can be sure that flavoring will help as will extra minerals or vitamins.

The one thing to be careful of in choosing a healthy drink is calorie content. Some of these drinks contain as much as 250 to 375 calories. So, if you’re tying o lose or control weight, these drinks may actually be counter-productive.

On the other hand, if weight isn’t a problem, you can always enjoy nice “healthy” beer with your dinner, maybe one with goji berries.

Anti Aging Skin Care Products

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

One thing I never thought much about was anti aging skin care products. I saw the commercials on television and they held no interest for me. Now that I am getting older, this is suddenly something that is on my mind. I look young for my age, and I do not really have a problem with lines or wrinkles as of yet, but is it not the best defense a good offense? If I can find something that works well now, perhaps I can keep those sorts of things at bay a little longer rather than trying to deal with them as they pop up.

There are a ton of anti aging skin care products out there, and that is a huge problem. You never know what will work and what will not work. No one wants to spend a lot of money on something only to find out it does not do any good. Though you will always need a good moisturizer, and that is one of the key anti aging skin care products, there is so much more out there. There are many things that make many claims, but how do you know what works and what is a waste? You do not. Sometimes, it is a matter of trial and error.

The best testimonials for anti aging skin care products are ones that come from real people. Do not make the mistake of believing what some celebrity on a commercial says. They are getting paid to say that, and they may not even use any of the anti aging skin care products that they are talking about. Some might, but I would bet a majority of them do not. You want to hear from real people who have really used these things, and have used them for a while. Do not believe what someone in a commercial, famous or not, has to tell you. You want to talk to real people.

Your best bet is to find a source for reviews of anti aging skin care products online somewhere. I wish there were more of these sites online. Though you may not be able to tell if all of the testimonials are real, as long as that site is not connected with those who produce the anti aging skin care products, you can relax and be assured that you are hearing from real folks. You can tell by how the person speaks and writes. After a while you know the difference between public relations writing and how really people talk about products.

How To Keep Aging At Bay With An Antiaging Solution

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Exactly what is an antiaging solution? Is it the eternal fountain of youth we have heard so much about but to this day still remains a myth or is it simply an antiaging routine we can adapt to our day-to-day lives to slow the aging process just a little? Let’s be realistic, unless the fountain of youth does exist or you have a healthy bank balance, slowing the aging process or keeping it in check is plain common sense.

A Simple Antiaging Solution

What’s the answer? What if I told you proper nutrition would form the basis of your antiaging solution. That’s right…nutrition! You hear it everyday… “make sure you have a nutrition balanced diet” or “watch what you eat and make sure it’s full of the goodness of vitamins.”

Getting optimal amounts of nutrition everyday is as close to an antiaging solution you’ll get. Why? Well, nutrition is the food of choice for our body cells and if we can provide them with the right sustenance on a daily basis, not in modest but optimal amounts, then we are providing our body with all the ammunition it needs to fight off aging and disease.

The problem today is most of the nutritional value in our food has disappeared. Because of improved and smarter farming and food preservation techniques during the past 60 years, food’s nutritional value has gradually diminished to the point where we need to make up the shortfall by taking extra antioxidants and minerals via other sources. This then leads to another problem…are the antioxidant and mineral products available on the shelves today in the correct balance and amounts? Do they actually contain and do what the label on the bottle or container says? You’ll be surprised at the answer!

An Antiaging Solution Shortlist

Here’s a simple shortlist of things you should consider for your antiaging solution:

1. Reduce Stress And Tension - Stress has been identified as not only a leading cause of ailments but is also a killer. Stress and tension is also a leading producer of free radicals within our bodies which in turn, if not countered, will invade and damage bory cells by the millions.

2. Eating healthy is so obvious as part of any antiaging solution but many just simply ignore it. Eating fruits and vegetables and drinking an ample quantity of water, preferably distilled, will be a step in the right direction. However, fruit and vegetables have become victim to food preservation techniques and the truth is, by the time it reaches the consumer, a lot of the goodness has disappeared. This is where optimal amounts of antioxidant and minerals come in as we discussed above.

3. Good skin care treatment compliments the reduction of stress and proper nutrition intake as part of your antiaging solution. Applying a quality cleanser and hydrating toner routine followed by a protective emulsifier on a daily basis is almost crucial, particularly if you spend lots of time in the sun, wear make up or, eat poorly. Providing nourishment to the skin, the body’s largest organ, is is as important as keeping your body cells healthy.

Combined, reducing stress, eating healthy and using quality skin care treatment is and antiaging solution that’s pretty hard to beat, unless of course you have stumbled across the fountain of youth!

Undoing the Lines of Old Age

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

As we advance in years certain lines appear on the face and neck, which we associate with age. But these marks of physical deterioration are more often due to neglect than to years. Some women, for instance who are twenty-five, may appear ten years older.

The preservation of the celebrated beauty of the sixteenth century, Ninon de L’Enclos, is a well-known instance of this theory. This woman was remarkable for her wonderful physical preservations. At the age of eighty, creditable authorities state she retained the great beauty of her girlhood. Her face having the freshness of youth, and being as free from the lines of age as it had been at twenty and her white-powdered hair, then fashionable, added to her youthful appearance.

From the data the writer has been able to gather, her smoothness of skin and freedom from wrinkles was due solely to persistent daily friction of the skin of her face, combined with an exercise for the muscles of the neck and throat. Little was known of the laws of scientific physical culture at that time, but as Madam de L’Enclos retained her elasticity of body and graceful figure to the last, it is evident that some system of exercises was systematically and persistently practiced. In that way alone could her youthful condition have been preserved.

Usually the first marks left by time on the human features — and they are common to us all — are the wrinkles extending from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth and beyond. As the years advance these are joined by parallel wrinkles, somewhat shorter, about half an inch distant on the cheek. Still later, another, and even shorter, wrinkle appears at a further distance of less than half an inch. Others are also formed, beginning at the corners of the mouth, and extending downward with a slight inward curve.

Wrinkles on the forehead with a slight downward bend at the ends which parallel the line of the eyebrows, appear. These are generally from three to five in number, according to one’s age. The wrinkles commonly called “crow’s feet” spread, fanwise, from the outer corners, of the eyes over the temples, and are also usually from three to five in number.

The skin below the eyes becomes loose and creased. These creased lines start from the corners of the eyes, slightly curving and overlapping each other. By this time one or two lines usually appear at the sides of the neck, commencing at a point back of the ears, extending below the jaw, and slanting downward to the throat. Immediately behind the ears, too, the skin becomes slightly loose; two short wrinkles form, and a line appears extending down to, and under, the neck. At the next stage a great number of very short, tiny lines begin to appear all over the face and neck — some parallel, others intersecting. These lines give the skin a withered appearance. The freshness of youth has departed. Now, the skin under the chin becomes loose, too. All of the long lines meet and overlay and interweave, and combine with the short ones, just appearing to form a tangled web of crisscrossing that deepen as the years advance. This is the skein of life. This is the spinning of time. And the pattern is never beautiful!

The only sure method of erasing these lines is by friction. And this is best accomplished with the palms of the hands. This treatment, if began when the disfiguring lines first appear, and if methodically and daily practiced along with the exercises for the muscles of the face and neck, will surely result in a very marked and satisfactory improvement in the personal appearance.

Effective Business Card Design For Wedding Planners

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

There are several things to consider in seeking an effective design for a business card for a Wedding Planner. First, it is important to remember that business cards are more than just a way to pass on contact information. They have a second function. It introduces you to your potential client and creates that critical first impression. It is also to have an understanding of how your profession relates to a person’s use of a business card. People do not marry or plan weddings on the spur of the moment. A business card that is glanced at and then discarded is not going to be very effective. Like many professional business cards, the wedding planner’s card needs to be saved, so that it can be readily available when the time comes that their services are actually needed.

If you keep these considerations in mind, the design process is given some clear guidelines for making the card effective. Custom Business cards are going to create a much more favorable impression than plain black and white cards. A Wedding Planner should have one of the most impressive cards of any profession. The bride and her family are looking for someone to help make one day as special as it can be and a business card that is unforgettable is going to instill confidence in the client. If you can produce a beautiful, elegant, and impressive card, you should be able to do the same thing for a wedding. It is a chance to show off your good taste and your creativity.

You also do not want the client to glance at the card and toss it away. Size and material can be helpful here. The style known as a folding card is an excellent choice here. It allows much more space. The front of the card can contain more eye catching artwork and color and the inside can give a bit more information on the full range of your services. A card made of more expensive stock, or even plastic, can encourage retention. It is the natural tendency of people to retain more elaborate and expensive things, and this is what you want your card to convey. The ultimate proof of the success of your design choice would be to have the card placed carefully with a stack of bridal magazines in a girl’s hope chest.

Natalie Aranda writes about marketing. There are several things to consider in seeking an effective design for business cards for a Wedding Planner. How To Cope With Memory Loss

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

A common topic of conversation amongst adults over the age of 40 is the subject of memory or, more accurately, memory problems.

Whilst it’s natural to experience memory loss with aging, the effect of it seem to be more noticeable after the age of 40.

Memory loss continues during your fifties and sixties, as you continue to lose brain cells and chemical changes make it hard to remember even simple things, like peoples names.

The irony is that the harder you try to remember and the more stressed you become about it, the less likely you are to remember.

Tips on remembering

  • Keep a routine - for example, always put your car keys in the same place
  • Write it down - don’t be afraid to write it down, whether it’s something you need to pick up from the shop or a ‘phone call you’ve promised to make
  • Keep a diary - write down everything so you don’t need to try and remember
  • Keep your brain active - do crosswords, sudoku, quizes to help improve your memory
  • If remembering names of people you’ve just met, develop a system. Either write it down, or associate their name with a letter or person you already know.

Remember that it’s normal to experience some loss of memory as you get older.

Health Tips

Eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, thiamin, iron, and vitamin B6. Also vitamin C and vitamin E are great nutrients for optimal memory function.

Don’t worry

Worry and stress will only make your problem worse. Try and reduce stress in your life and put systems and routines in place to help you cope.

Finally, make sure you share a good joke with friends of your own age on a regular basis! After all, they do say that laughter is the best medicine.

Tortilla Wars are Proof that Socialism and Communism Lurk in the Western Hemisphere

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Perhaps you have heard that the Mexican Citizens are screaming and rioting in the streets over the raise in costs of tortillas. It is true. And things like this indeed have caused revolutions in many nation-states in the past. It is a serious issue no doubt and this comes as the civil unrest continues after the very close election, where the losing party would not concede due to the razor thin victory of the other.

One would suppose if we wished to take over Mexico without a shot being fired all we would have to do is calm the masses with Free GMO Flour Tortillas and some cloned meat to help with the contents of the Burritos. After all a man and his family have to eat!

Mexico is a beautiful country indeed, I hope everything there turns back to normal soon, I am sure it will. It is so unfortunate that the price of tortillas is so high now in Mexico causing the revolt there.

There needs to be a remedy to keep peace otherwise Mexico, Central America and South America could soon be endorsing Potato lines as well. Which were things seem to be headed.

I am also concerned about the Price of Rice in China, could this lead to a revolution there as well? Some might say that there is more to life than merely tortillas and rice.

I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.
