Up until a few years ago, I only ever used Ebay to buy things. I mostly looked for odds and ends — things I collected (usually sports related) that you can’t find in stores anymore. I enjoy that immensely (finding an out of print book or a press pin to the 1959 World Series for example).
But one day, my eyes were opened to the opportunity of selling on Ebay. Here’s what happened.
I was searching for a jersey that I wanted. My favorite team wore it once in the previous year and I had to have one. I’d seen a bunch on Ebay before, but they were all a little more expensive than what I wanted to pay. During my search, I came across a jersey that was different from what I was looking for (but still very cool!) and way too cheap.
I started to watch that other jersey. And I realized that no one was bidding on it. I couldn’t figure out why. The specs were all good and the seller was reputable.
So I waited. And towards the end of the auction, I put in a bid. I won it. I bought this jersey for about half of what I thought it was worth.
When the jersey arrived at my house, I was impressed. It was exactly what I thought it would be. Now, I didn’t want the jersey. I just thought it was a deal. And I figured I’d try to sell it. So I did.
Selling the jersey was just as easy as buying something on Ebay. I ended up selling the jersey for what it was worth (about double what I paid for it just a week before).
That’s what got me hooked. Ever since then, I’ve been selling on Ebay. Now, I don’t always sell things that I buy and then resell — those deals can be hard to come by. But it’s usually easy to find things to sell, especially when you get up and running with Ebay.
