Scuba Diving the Vietnam War’s last battleground, Koh Tang Cambodia

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Koh Tang today is mostly forgotten as the last battleground of the Vietnam War. Located in the Gulf of Thailand it is 35 miles from the port of Sihanoukville Cambodia. There are no memorials here, once I heard the distinctive sound of a AK47 ripping through a clip poking holes in the sky fired in anger over a poker gamer, sometimes today you can still hear explosions, but they are related more to poverty than to war, as desperate men risk their lives in a continuing battle to make money from a slowly decaying fishing ground that is systematically being depleted by the Vietnamese and Thailand fishing fleets, illegally fishing in Cambodian water for squid and shrimp mostly. Thankfully the dynamite blasts are down to a trickle as the Cambodians are discouraging this at the higher levels and it is starting to be really enforced.

Underwater there are no visible artifacts or evidence that the battle ground was here. The USA MIA teams are still looking for a helicopter lost and never recovered during the Mayaguez incident, but many here speculate that it was found a long time ago, and like the other submerged wrecks in this part of South East Asia was salvaged for the metals that they are composed of. The iconic helicopter of the Vietnam War nicknamed “Heuys” I have been told are mostly aluminum, magnesium and titanium which would bring a handsome reward to the salvager.

Koh Tang today is one of the best scuba diving areas in Cambodia with several Sihanoukville dive companies running overnight trips out to this large uninhabited island group. Large fish like cobias and sail fish as well as large schools of jacks, snappers and fusiliers swim over the reef in large numbers as damaged reef section are repaired by mother nature, with new coral colonies of “apcora” (a commonly known variety being stag horn coral) growing at a rapid pace, and the fish stocks displaced start to recover. The diving is good, no crowds and several large shallow sections, as well as the deep reefs escaped damage, so there is ample dive opportunities interspersed with the damaged coral beds. The most famous dive site in Cambodia would be Virgin Reef which has never been completely dived due to its large size, is blessed with healthy fish stocks and some amazing coral gardens stretching for hundreds of meters out from the island.

Visiting A Scuba Diving Resort

Friday, August 31st, 2007

When it comes to vacationing, nothing equals the ability to customize a trip to your very personal ideas of fun and relaxation. For scuba enthusiasts, visiting a scuba diving resort can be the epitome of a vacation, where they can relax, enjoy themselves, and participate in as many scuba related activities as they want. A scuba diving resort offers a chance for divers to focus exclusively on what they love to do and there’s no greater vacation than that.

Scuba diving is popular worldwide; the experiences differ depending on the region you visit. Choosing a scuba diving resort begins with your regional preference. If it’s winter where you live and you’re craving the warmth of the sun, then head to any of the multitude of places that are conducive to scuba year round; the Florida Keys, South America, and the Caribbean.

Be sure to examine the scuba diving resort in which you are interested to determine if they have the features you require. For instance, if you want to have a certified scuba professional guide you through a particular dive, then you need to seek out a scuba diving resort that offers that service. If you want to rent scuba equipment rather than bring your gear, then find a scuba diving resort that offers rental services.

The Internet is clearly a great place to start when it comes to doing comprehensive research. You can find listings of resorts, the amenities they offer and their range of prices. In this way you can comparison shop to ensure you get what you want while staying within your budget guidelines.

Scuba-related magazines may also offer tips on finding the perfect scuba diving resort. You’ll undoubtedly find first-hand reports by scuba enthusiasts that examine the benefits of particular resorts. Whichever scuba diving resort you choose to visit you will surely have an experience to remember.

There is much to be said when discussing Grand Cayman scuba diving due to the history that is in the oceans there as well as because of the captivating underwater scenery. Grand Cayman scuba diving offers probably one of the best places in the world to experience scuba diving as compared to Seattle with the Starbucks. On every corner in the Grand Cayman, there is a Grand Cayman scuba diving shop that offers up lessons and diving adventures just as every corner in Seattle has a Starbucks coffee shop or a vendor. It is a plentiful and demanding hobby, and for some, it is a career.

Wall and Wreck Grand Cayman Scuba Diving

Grand Cayman scuba diving offers the adventure of a lifetime by going underwater and observing magical and marvelous walls that surround the entire island. The first wall when going Grand Cayman scuba diving is located about sixty feet down and is not a terribly difficult dive and offers the view of many different kinds of underwater foliage as well as sea life from a sting ray to the infamous sea turtle.

Grand Cayman scuba diving also provides a diver with the opportunity to dive into wrecks that are around the island and is a marvelous sight. Ships that have sunk still remain with an abundance of sea life that has made the ships and wreckages a home and they are very nosy when someone comes knocking on the door and are excited when they receive guest from the Grand Cayman scuba diving groups. This can often be seen in photography taken from previous dives, the aqua life really enjoy posing for pictures.

Grand Cayman scuba diving offers many sites in which to dive, learn how to dive or fine-tune your current diving skills. It has the most intriguing collection of underwater life including both plant and animal than any dive spot in the world. There are, as mentioned above, beautiful walls that are peppered with an assortment of coral and underwater sponges of all different varieties and colors. What You Need To Know About Bankruptcy And The Aftermath

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Accumulating debts and not dealing with financial problems in time can lead to a situation where one may have to consider filing for bankruptcy. Arguably, this one of the most misunderstood financial terms today. A lot of people really do not understand the full implications and what it really stands for.

Bankruptcy gives someone with financial problems an opportunity to wipe his or her slate clean, canceling the debt and having a fresh start. It also allows the one being owed (creditor) to receive a good part of what the person owing the money (debtor) can pay back. It is usually filed for a number of reasons, the common ones being unemployment, divorce, foreclosures, or lawsuits etc.

There are two types of bankruptcy for such cases. They are Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. While Chapter 7 allows all unsecured debts to be wiped out; though you can lose your property, Chapter 13 gives regular income earners wishing to pay back their debts but can’t the opportunity to do so with supervision. The court supervises such payments and a period of time is set for the payment to be made.

The truth is bankruptcy is not a decision to be taken lightly; it must be considered as last resort. And don’t ever think you can deceive people and get rid of your debt easily by filing as a bankrupt. You will be seriously investigated to ensure you actually lack the ability to payback what you are owing. If you think you can just file for bankruptcy and then go on spending, you have another thing coming for you.

You will also have to undergo a means test. Because a lot of people have been abusing the system set in place for bankruptcy proceedings, extra efforts is being made to fully determine those can repay and those who can’t. That is what the means test is for. The law categorically prohibits anyone that can pay 25% or $10,000 of his or her debt to file for the Chapter7 type of bankruptcy. So the means test determines which category you fall in Chapter 7 or Chapter13 bankruptcy.

Before choosing bankruptcy as an option in a bid to solve your financial problems, make sure you use the services of consultants who are well versed about the proceedings and who if possible can recommend alternative routes for you to take to deal with your debts. It should be a last resort. Get financial advice from experts, explore other options before taking up bankruptcy as an option. If for any reason you have to file, it means you didn’t get a firm control on your financial life so you must make sure you are ready to take total charge of your finances so as not to be back in the same spot again in a short time.

Mental Health From Video Games

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

New computer video games used to improve self-esteem and reduce stress.

A group of computer video game developers where impress by the success of Nintendo’s “Brain Age” and felt they should produce a stream of games that help with the psychological growth of the mind.

The are planning creating a game called “DS Therapy” for the Nintendo DS that goes through asking question that range from money to your love life to stimulate your mind and measure it on a daily bases.

Another game “Mind Habits Booster” is designed to help people feel good about themselves. It help to address insecurity and stress by having player picking repeatedly smiling, approving face from a list of frowning faces to help people look for acceptance and ignore rejection.

“A study conducted by West Virginia University and supported by Konami Digital Entertainment claimed that consistent usage of the “Dance Dance Revolution” game “improved the health, attitudes and behaviors of participating children.””

Researcher at Rochester University conducted a survey which they found that many children play computer video games for basic psychological needs such as achievement, freedom and a connection to others.

An example of the positive results from computer game play is Mary Jane Zamora, 50 from Redondo Beach, California whom is recovering from a fight with breast cancer. She uses such games as virtual golf, bowling and tennis on Nintendo’s Wii console system to help build up her strength and agility.

So not all computer video games are focused on violence and destruction, some actually do help the human physce and build self-esteem in its players.

Scuba Diving Naked!

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Well I can’t honestly say that I have scuba dived naked, that is with no clothes on, the closest that I have come was accidentally flashing my girlfriend when I was avoiding a embarrassing moment in my wet suit on a particularly long dive in Hawaii; you see I had custom wetsuit that had a zipper installed that I told everyone was so that I could control the temperature by venting the suit at the junction of my legs, which everyone knows that has taken a cold weather survival class is the hottest area on your body. By the way it is a myth that you can warm up your wetsuit that way, all it does is make it smell bad and then no one wants to dive with you and all the fish will swim away as well, can you blame them!

I do like the idea of water that is warm enough to dive naked. I remember once being in water that was 25 degrees that would be Celsius roughly 70 degrees on the American scale and I thought that I was going to need to be placed in a microwave for 10 minutes to warm up, to say that I am a wimp when it comes to cold is grossly understated, I even drink my water with out ice!

I like the feeling of freedom that you get when you are skinny dipping, just kind of hanging out, if you will, in warm water, is akin to having a giant bathtub that you don’t use soap in, if you are the environmentally sensitive type, which most skinny dippers by nature tend to be. Before I do it though I am going to have to some questions answered like.

What about the fish, I wonder are they sensitive to this kind of thing?

Will the fish confuse the new things they are seeing with bait?

Jellyfish?

I am also having a hard time understanding the mechanics of scuba diving naked, where do you put the BCD jacket, do you carry it in your arms, or drag it behind you, you can’t really wear it or you are not technically diving naked right? Maybe they dive Hawaiian kind style with just a tank and a mask, and suck the air out of the top like in the old days?

I don’t remember any of this being answered in any of my dive books. Maybe you can help me out; if you have any pictures, please send them along so I can see and understand for myself what’s involved to make it a pleasurable experience. Thanks in advance for the pictures!

Oceanside-California-Sun-Surf-and San Diego

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Offering sandy beaches, entertaining amusements, and a relaxing atmosphere that is in sharp contrast to nearby San Diego, Oceanside is the perfect vacation destination for anyone who wants it all away from the hustle and bustle of the city. While still close enough to enjoy everything that San Diego has to offer, this quaint California community is brimming with activities to keep you coming back year after year.

Oceanside, as it name suggests, is a waterfront haven where you can enjoy recreational activities beyond belief along three-and-a-half miles of white sandy beaches. Swimming, surfing, body boarding, sunbathing, sand volleyball, and rollerblading are just a few of the outdoor pursuits waiting for you along this clean, soft stretch of sand. With so much to see and do, the most difficult part of your day may be deciding on which of its lovely beaches you should lay down your towel.

The largest of Oceanside’s Pacific wonders, Harbor Beach is the perfect starting point for any inshore or offshore adventure. Beach bums will appreciate all of the space at their disposal, while those who want to explore outwards can head over to the nearby Oceanside Harbor and book a whale watching or deep-sea fishing excursion. For those who are relaxing near the Oceanside Pier, Pier View North offers a quiet and calm beach atmosphere compared to Pier View South, which is the most popular beach in Oceanside with its surfing, body surfing, and body boarding contests and proximity to the events of the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater.

Beyond the beaches, Oceanside is teeming with sights and attractions that will have you wondering how you never visited this California beauty before. At the Oceanside Harbor, fine dining and charming shops and boutiques are the perfect respite from the sandy shore, while the Oceanside Pier is the perfect resting spot for a glorious sunset with only the Pacific Ocean in sight. Active pursuits are also available away from the water on the several stunning golf courses that dot the area, including the Emerald Isle Golf Course, Oceanside Golf Course, and the Center City Golf Course.

As the most historically significant and picturesque attraction in the area, a stop by the Mission San Luis Rey de Francia should be near the top of every itinerary. The mission, founded in 1798, features an impressive combination of Spanish, Mexican, and Moorish influences that is architecturally stunning in person. Other facets of history can be found around Oceanside at the Buena Vista Audubon Society Nature Center, where natural history blossoms among the native flora and fauna, and at the California Surf Museum, which seeks to preserve artifacts and memorabilia related to this popular ocean sport.

While the local attractions provide insight into the influences and priorities of this community, the nearby attractions of San Diego offer entertainment and excitement that is simply beyond compare. Only a short, forty-minute drive away, the city features world-famous amusements such as the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park along with new favorites like Legoland, which has rides, shows, and attractions that appeal to visitors of all ages. If you have never been or it has been years since your last visit, be sure to check out SeaWorld for its exhilarating marine shows, complete with Shamu, and various zoological displays.

With something to satisfy the tastes of every visitor, your Oceanside getaway will be filled with smiles and cheers as you roam the banks of this coastal retreat. While you know that your time outdoors will be filled with endless activities and attractions, don’t forget about occupying your time indoors with a vacation home rental. Oceanside vacation rentals can keep the laughter going with their game rooms, media rooms, and plenty of space for a family game night. Put cramped and unwelcoming hotel rooms in the past and enjoy the convenience, space, and amenities that an Oceanside rental has to offer for your dream vacation in this seaside paradise.

GreatRentals.com has the most comprehensive selection of vacation rental homes on the Internet. For an alternative lodging option, consider Oceanside vacation rentals for your next trip to the San Diego area.

Conferences-Tax Deductions & Business Benefits

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Depending on the industry you work in, there are several conferences that are held throughout the year that you can attend. Let’s take the industry I work in as an example. I am a web developer/internet marketer and the types of conferences I can attend range anywhere from computers, programming, web marketing, and design. There are several tax advantages as well as business benefits to the self-employed individual when it comes to conferences.

Tax Deductible
The great thing about conferences is that they are typically held in another city or state. Sometimes even in other countries. That means that you are able to deduct your lodging costs if the conference is far enough away that would require you to stay overnight. You can even deduct a portion of your meal costs as well. Just remember that the conference must be business related. Keep a paper trail by keeping expense receipts and tradeshow workbooks. Use common sense and consult with your accountant if you are not sure what is deductible and what isn’t.

Networking
Conferences also provide a great way to network with other professionals in your industry. You will pass out tons of business cards and receive just as many in return. You may land potential new clients as well and you will definitely get your name and business out there. Free marketing never hurts and you may meet people that can also help your business grow.

Education
Many conferences are held to teach attendees new techniques or more efficient ways of growing your business. In my case, the web is in constant flux. The conferences I can attend are usually displaying the newest software or programming language that could increase my productivity. Conferences provide one centralized place for a meeting of the minds. Take plenty of notes and soak it all in!

Fun
Since conferences are typically held out of state, they are also typically held in fun cities. Popular venues include San Francisco, Boston, New York City, etc. If you have never been before, what a great opportunity to take in a little sight seeing while keeping most of your trip tax deductible!

Overall, if you have the time and the funds to attend business related conferences, take the opportunity to do so. It is a win-win situation. You get to learn more about your industry, take tax deductions, and have fun all at the same time.

Making The Change

Changing your diet isn’t always easy. After all, our current food habits have been formed over time so you need to give time to changing them. For some, changing your eating habits is more of a marathon than a sprint - slow and steady wins the race. While others prefer the “cold turkey” method. Whatever your methods, it’s important that you persevere and make the life-long commitment to improving your eating habits so that you can support your overall plan in treating your fibromyalgia.
