How Can I Upgrade My PC For Gaming?

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Technology moves so fast these days. By the time you’ve bought a PC it’s guaranteed that most of the parts will be out of date within a few months. This can also depend on where you buy your PC from as well. A lot of companies sell PC packages that can seem like good value for money at the time. They bundle a printer, scanner and other add-ons with your PC, but then you find out that you’re spending tons of cash on ink, your PC is too generic and not good enough for what you want to use it for, gaming!

If you drop by your local “best buy” or “PC world” to look for a new PC to play the latest games then you’re going to run in to problems. A lot of gamers these days make or at least customize their own PCs from scratch. Why? Because they know what’s needed to run these games.

90% of PCs today that are sold through those types of stores in packages are aimed at the average “I want a PC so I can surf the net, play music and watch DVDs” consumer. These PCs are acceptable for those needs but if you want to play the latest games then you haven’t got a chance of getting them to run to their necessary requirements.

Too many time’s I’ve seen people go out and buy a brand new PC, try to go online and play a new game such as “Battlefield 2” or “Quake 4” and find out that the game runs bad even on the lowest settings. They then end up spending twice as much on a PC by having to buy a new one from scratch or upgrade a lot of the parts because they’ve made the mistake of buying an “e-Machine” in the first place.

So you have an old PC you want to upgrade so you can play the latest games. The main components you will need to look at for upgrading are :

Motherboard
Power supply (PSU)
Processor (CPU)
Memory (RAM)
Graphics card
Sound card

I put them in this order for the below reasons although some people may disagree with me.

The motherboard is the main component in your PC as it ties all the other components together. You can buy the best CPU and graphics card and sound card, but if your motherboard stinks then they aren’t going to be able to work to the best of their abilities.

The power supply is extremely important. If you can’t get enough power to the rest of the parts in your PC then nothing will work properly and in some case, they won’t even work at all. You can pick up a cheap power supply for about $20 but normally with technology these days, you get what you pay for. If you intend to have a top notch graphics card and powerful CPU in your PC then you need a good quality power supply that is stable and capable of powering all your PCs parts effectively.

The CPU (central processing unit) is the heart of your PC. If you have a slow CPU but the best graphics card and motherboard then your CPU will hold back the other components in your PC.

Your computer’s memory is just as important as the CPU. This will be used to store and transfer the data on your PC fast and if you have bad, slow or not enough memory then it’s going to slow the rest of your PC down.

The graphics card is extremely important in today’s games. If you can’t render the graphics fast enough then you’ll experience lag and slow down in your games no matter how good the rest of your PC is. Most “bundled” graphics cards are built on to the motherboards in packaged PCs and share the actual system memory. This is BAD for gaming!

The sound card isn’t as important as the rest of the components but it can help your PC perform better. If you have a stand alone sound card, it takes some of the workload off of your CPU and motherboard and a lot of today’s best sound cards even have their own special sound system that is used by a lot of new games.

Obviously if you want to be able to play the best games on the market and if you play competitively online then you want to be able to play to the best of your abilities and not have to worry about your PC not being able to handle the needs of today’s games.

It can be expensive but there are easy ways for you to upgrade on a budget. Maybe if you’re thinking of upgrading now then you should go ahead but even starting to look for the best parts to upgrade your PC can be a daunting task.

Personally when I’m upgrading I never go for the very top of the range. You don’t have to buy the best (as you know it’s going to be going down in price dramatically in the next few months) but you can still get some great PC hardware for good prices that will run those games without any slowdown and still make them look and feel great to play.

One bad link in the chain will hinder your computer’s performance. When you want to upgrade or even buy a new PC you must ensure that each part is as good as the others to get the best performance and stability for any type of computer tasks.

World of Warcraft Warrior Guide

Monday, September 10th, 2007

In World of Warcraft, Warriors are the quintessential melee-centered class that is employed by both the Alliance and Horde factions. Their brute strength along with their heavy plate armor, and versatility on the battlefield help to make the Warrior the ultimate master of tactics and weaponry. The Warrior is a dependable class that can take a large amount of damage during a fight. They are the tanks of World of Warcraft. These things along with having a wide range of options from which to choose all add up to make the Warrior class one awesome fighting machine.

The Warrior class is very versatile and there are various stances to meet any given situation imaginable. This applies to soloing as well as fighting within a group. Warriors are very dependant upon gear but this also means that they can utilize a wide assortment of useful items. They also have the advantage a myriad of combat abilities that have an extremely wide range of effects. These include ordinary direct damage, damage over time, and stuns.

While other classes have a mana bar, the Warrior class has what is called a rage bar. It starts out empty but fills as attacks are executed. After each battle the rage bar slowly empties over time so it is good to keep a cycle of getting back into battle quickly in order to keep the rage bar at full. Just as the mana bar fuels spells for other classes, the rage bar is the power source for the Warrior’s abilities. One thing to keep in mind is that when you switch between different stances, your rage bar is reset and you have to fill it up all over again. You will want to avoid doing this in the middle of a battle.

One good way of taking advantage of the rage bar is to attack the various animal life like rabbits and deer that are found throughout the game. Because they have extremely low health these smaller targets can usually be killed in about one or two hits. By killing just one of them you can fill your rage bar halfway up. This makes it possible to fill your rage bar completely with as little as two hits. This is an easy way to quickly fill your rage bar. If you tactically position yourself to kill these smaller creatures near mobs of larger monsters then you will have the advantage of attacking the mobs with your rage meter already full.

This brief introduction has barely scratched the surface of the many advantages the Warrior class has in World of Warcraft. There are many guides and resources available online that contain much more information regarding this powerful class.

World of Warcraft Hunter Builds

Monday, September 10th, 2007

The Hunter is right at home in the untamed wild lands of World of Warcraft. The Hunter class is a perfect match for the scores of wild beasts that roam the vast wilderness of Azeroth. Their lightening quick reflexes, deadly accurate aim, and vast knowledge of the beasts of the land make the Hunter an extremely well balanced class. When effectively played, the hunter is not only a cunning solo fighter but they are also an excellent addition to any group as well as an extremely challenging PvP opponent.

Hunters are skilled in a variety of ways that make perfect use of the wild environment in which they are accustomed. They are probably best known for their mastery of animals. Not only do they posses the abilities of tracking and taming them, but they can also befriend the various beasts of the wild. Spiders, tigers, unicorns, raptors and other various creatures can uniquely bond with a Hunter and become a close traveling and fighting companion. Hunters only travel with one pet at their side and they invest much time and effort into developing their pet’s abilities and raising their strength. There are a plethora of various creatures for the Hunter to seek out and adapt with in World of Warcraft

Hunters only wear the lightest of armors and therefore are extremely agile and are lightening quick. They are capable of a variety of defensive maneuvers and have a huge assortment of weapons at their disposal that can be equipped in either or both of their hands simultaneously. They can make use of guns or bows, and they are highly effective trappers. They are absolute masters when it comes to ranged weapons and they sport abilities that can enhance their effectiveness.

Trapping is a great ability but using traps can be a tricky thing. Traps can only be placed outside of combat and then they can only be used one at a time. Because of this limitation you must strategize before the battle even takes place. The majority of hunters make use of the Immolation Trap at some point along the way, but it is not the only one. Different traps have differing and various uses. The Freezing Trap is excellent for its slowing effect and the Immolation Trap is a simple single target damaging trap. Even though they become increasingly ineffective in the higher levels of World of Warcraft, they can still make a huge difference in various situations.

The Hunter class is brimming with usefulness and cunning. With there expert ways of the land, they make a great addition to any group and their unique skills are an awesome contribution to the various groups and communities of World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft: Dwarf

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Dwarves are a proud and ancient race of powerful warriors that reside far beneath the snow covered peaks of the Khaz Modan Mountains. With a love of storytelling that is only matched by their lust for battle, Dwarves are quick to befriend those that belong to that of the Human race. In days long past, the Dwarves rarely ventured beyond the secure walls of their ancient mountain fortresses. Yet, ever since the second war, they have never failed to answer the call to battle and rush to the aide of their friends and allies when the need arose.

Dwarves are fascinated by recent discoveries concerning their past and seemingly mysterious origin of being formed from stone by the Titans. Because of this they have built various excavation sites throughout the realm of World of Warcraft in order to discover the truth of their beginnings.

The starting locations for the Dwarf race in World of Warcraft is Anvil Marr, Dun Morogh and their home city is Ironforge. They are capable of playing as the following classes: Rogue, Hunter, Paladin, Warrior, and Priest. Rams are their Basic Mount. These are their Starting Stats: Strength-22, Agility-16, Stamina-23, intelligence-19, Spirit-29.

Dwarves have the active ability of Stoneform. When it is active, the player is immune to Poison, Bleed, and Disease effects. Also Armor increases by a factor of ten percent. This ability lasts for eight seconds and has a cool-down time of three minutes.

Dwarves also have gun specialization and, as such, get the added luxury of a plus five increase to their gun skill.

Dwarves have Frost Resistance as well. All Dwarves have the unique bonus of a plus ten increase in their Frost Resistance.

Dwarves also have a Find Treasure ability. When you activate this skill it will enable you to locate where treasure chests are on the mini map. This ability lasts until it is cancelled and has no cool-down time.

Warrior is an excellent class choice for Dwarves. This is due to the fact that their Stoneform ability gives them the advantage of being capable of receiving a lot more damage with much less negative effect upon their health. Dwarves also have the added benefit of their Gun Skill which is a huge plus for Dwarven Hunters. While dwarves are master Warriors and Hunters, they also make excellent Paladins and Priests. There is often a need for Dwarven Priest because of their racial Priest spell Fear Ward.

Although often overlooked by many, the Dwarven race has many advantages and abilities that make it an excellent choice for any of the World of Warcraft classes including the Rogue class.

World of Warcraft Talent Points

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

One of the most enjoyable aspects of any MMORPG like World of Warcraft is the ability to personalize your character. Personalizing your character by choosing which talents to level and which ones to ignore is what helps to make characters that belong to the same class unique from one another.

Beginning with level ten, your character will begin to receive one talent point for each new level that is gained. As you earn them you will assign your talent points to your character’s corresponding skill tree. There are three different skill trees available to each character class and they are all unique to their particular class. Each individual skill tree in World of Warcraft is comprised of the various unique skills and abilities that are available to its own particular character class.

What follows is a brief explanation as to how the Talent Point/Skill Tree system in World of Warcraft operates. Acquiring a particular ability or skill for the corresponding talent is not as simple as gaining and assigning one point to its corresponding skill tree. This is due the fact that there are prerequisite for all of those higher than tier one. Simply stated, what this means is that, in order to activate and take advantage of a certain Talent that is located within the second tier of the Skill Tree, you may be required to assign five of your talent points in the top tier prerequisite before it is activated. This tiered system requires players to use a certain degree of strategy when choosing where they allocate their talent points as they are earned. When a talent is placed, it can not be removed without the player making a trip to their class trainer and paying a fee to unlearn all of their talents.

In order to learn the ultimate talent you are required to have thirty Talent Points already placed in that particular Skill Tree. What this means is that for you to be able to learn the ultimate talent you will have to allocate at least 31 points into that particular tree. Because of this limiting factor, you are only capable of learning one of the three ultimate talents.

Because each of the available World of Warcraft character classes has three different talent trees that are completely unique for each class, you have a couple of options available to you. You can allocate all of your points to one tree and master one particular aspect of your character class or you can opt to diversify your characters abilities by spreading your Talent Points out into each of the three Skill Trees. Keep in mind that choosing the latter option will make it impossible to master one particular Talent aspect. Therein lies the beauty of being able to sculpt your World of Warcraft character into your own unique design.

World of Warcraft Blacksmithing

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

In World of Warcraft, Blacksmithing is the skill of forging metal bars along with other reagents into weapons and armor. Because of this, Blacksmithing lends itself quite well to the Warrior and Paladin Classes. Blacksmiths can create various items for other professions such as the Enchanter’s Rod for the Profession of Enchanting. They also have the ability to enhance the weapons of any and every character class by using special sharpening stones to increase their damage. They can also craft keys that will unlock treasure chests. There are a large number of unique items that can only be forged by Blacksmiths. This makes Blacksmithing a very desirable and handy skill to learn.

Blacksmithing is a Primary Service Profession. This means that it does count toward your limit of two Primary Professions. Mining is the obvious choice of Profession to partner with Blacksmithing. This is due to the obvious need for ore and gems. That is unless you want to have to depend upon buying the necessary materials from other World of Warcraft players. This is inadvisable because it can make Blacksmithing a very frustrating and costly profession to have. This is especially true when you take into account all of the other costs involved with learning and training in the profession of Blacksmithing including the cost of the Blacksmithing hammer.

Blacksmithing is not a hugely lucrative World of Warcraft profession due to the fact that the finished products will often times sell for much less than the cost of their primary raw materials. There are item drops that are much more desirable than the ones created through Blacksmithing. Because of this, the rarer dropped items will usually sell for more than items forged by a Blacksmith. This is the primary reason why Blacksmithing is more suitable for the Paladin and Warrior classes. Because Warriors and Paladins are the character classes that can initially equip mail armor they stand to benefit most from having the ability to forge their own weapons and armor.

Upon reaching the Blacksmithing skill of 200 and a character level of 40 in World of Warcraft, you have the option of choosing to specialize in a particular category of Blacksmithing. However, you will be required to complete special quests before you can specialize in your chosen area. The areas of specialization are as follows: Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, Swordsmith, Axesmith, and Hammersmith. Once you choose an area of specialization and complete the corresponding quest, your character is locked into that particular specialization even if you completely unlearn Blacksmithing and start over. However, if you change your mind before you complete the quest, then you may abandon the specialization quest and pick another in its place. You are only locked in after you complete the specialization quest.
