Do Your Customers Have To Ask You To Market Your Business?

Saturday, November 3rd, 2007

I know, I know…

Huh?

Please allow me to explain, because this is an instant profit generator for your business.

I mean it.

If you own a business that offers multiple products or services to your market…how do your customers find out the ways that your business can benefit their lives?

Do they have to actually ask you? I mean, is it their fault if they don\’t do enough research and find out from other sources what you have to offer?

Nope, it isn\’t their fault…it\’s your fault…and your responsibility to educate your customers how your business can benefit their lives.

"But Joe, I have a website/brochure that does all of that. Man, your a moron…telling me that I have to educate my customers on all of the services/products that I offer. Plus, they never ask me what I offer, so I assume they don\’t want to know." When a business owner replies this way…I naturally challenge them:

"Ok, Mrs. Business Owner, so what you are saying is it is your customers responsibility to use your brochures and websites etc… to educate themselves on your business and its offerings? What if they don\’t understand everything you offer? What if they don\’t want to read your website or brochure to find out how about every way you can help them?" "Mrs. Business Owner, how are you going to get your message across?"

Let\’s expand on this a little…using an example from a consultants business. * A client hires a marketing consultant to execute the marketing for their business.

* During the process, they uncover that the client\’s business lacks a system of marketing to their existing customer database. This requires that copy be written for the mailers to go out to that database. Well, the consultant should be able to tell you that client will pay fees to write that copy on top of the fees for executing the database marketing effort.

Why?

Because in the beginning of any relationship that consultant builds with their clients…They should educate them on the value of copywriting as part of their marketing process…then inform them that they offer that as well. This consulting relationship just had some value - added…because the consultant ensured that their clients are aware of, and educate them on the value of, every one of the services that the consultant provides.

And this can happen for you too. You cannot trust that your website, brochure, or other marketing collateral will do this all - important task. If you have sales staff, they need to be trained properly in offering and educating your clients on your entire menu of services or products that you provide and offer these to your new and existing customers. If you have not done this very well up to this point…this is an instant source of cash flow for your business.

As a bonus tip for today…

Go to your existing customer database if you have one. Start the process of educating and marketing all of your services or products to them, one at a time. Cha Ching :)

How do you market these extra offerings to your customer base?

That is for the next post.

The Fortune Is In the Follow Up

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

So, you’ve just got your first website up and running. Good for you!

Time to sit back and relax? You can. But only for awhile. Then it’s time to prepare for the next stage of having your own site.

The answer to your getting repeat visitors — who will turn into repeat customers — is to regularly enter new content into your site, plus have a plan to notify your mailing list.

Your site is like a storefront window, and you want to make sure you have new, fresh content and products there all the time. Getting new photos uploaded, adding new content and periodically culling out the old, are great ways to entice visitors to come back often.

You are making sure that visitors to your site can consistently look forward to seeing new and different material. You are showing everyone your up-to-date work and that you continually have fresh photos to offer.

Remember, because your website and your specialized content areas match the focus interest areas of the targeted photobuyers on your mailing list, you are guaranteeing return visitors. If you published only generic (generalized–all across the board) photos on your site, you would create no burning desire for the photobuyers on your mailing list to return.

Each time you add new photographs to your site, you can send a short email to the select number of the specialized photobuyers on your contact list, and alert them that you have recently made changes to your site. Because your photos match the photo needs of the names on your list of photobuyers, they will be genuinely interested in your site and your photography. Your marketing strategy of “following up” will eventually pay off in sales.

TWO MAILING LISTS

Personally, I have a list of some 50 photobuyers that I know are constantly looking for the kind of photos I make. These people get emails from me quite often with news about what I have to offer. I have another list of about 300 photobuyers that I know occasionally need my kind of images, and the people on this list get an email once every quarter or when I have made a major change on my site.

Be sure to mention your upcoming travel, both foreign and domestic!

My specialty is law enforcement. In the “New” section of my website, I put a few words about what images I will be producing in the near future. For instance, when I know I will be photographing traffic police, I let my photobuyers know this. That way the buyers who are planning something involving images of traffic police will make a note to contact me.

This tactic also can work to create new assignments, and here’s how: by sharing what I plan to do, it sometimes will spur my regular buyers to consider producing articles or other works on those same subject areas.

Here’s another way to follow-up with your buyers:
Offer a feedback form and/or contact form to make it easy for buyers and people to get in touch with you.
Again, if you email to your lists regularly, they’ll remember you and your photo specialty. “The fortune is in the follow-up.”

SPICE UP YOUR WEBSITE
TO ATTRACT MORE VISITORS

If yours is not a “generalized” website attempting to appeal to the universe of photobuyers, you can take advantage of your specialization (nursing, aviation, wildflowers, astronomy, architecture, etc.) by offering specialized information to your repeat visitors.

Magazine and book publishers gravitate to websites that are useful to them specifically. Provide “extras” for your visitors and you’ll experience repeat visitors and customers. Here are typical features you can include on your site, depending on your specialization; they’re all free for the asking:

CALCULATOR. Engineers, architecture, farming, etc.
http://www.bankrate.com/coinfo/licensedCalc_intro.asp
www.csalculatro.com

WEATHER. Aviation, fishing industry, gardening. www.accuweather.com/

MAP. Visitors can use special maps to find the geographic location of their photo need.
www.nemi.org/newsroom/Articles/Japan_paper.pdf ; www.lead-free.org

ASSOCIATIONS. Provide conference and convention dates of associations in fields your specialized clients would find of interest. www.ipl.org/div/aon/

GRANTS. Your visitors will want to know about government and corporate grants that they might qualify for.
www.grantsnet.org ; www.nsf.gov/home/grants.htm

CURRENCY CONVERTER. Will your client be traveling to a foreign country? Here’s a help feature for them. www.xe.com

HISTORY. Provide specialized historical info ranging from technology history to crime history. Law enforcement, education, corporate, etc.
www.historychannel.com

FREE ITEMS. Several sites offer free items. In a major search engine, type in your specialization and the word FREE. Feature a useful free item each week.

DISCOUNTS. You’ll find a range of discount websites ranging from travel to hotels, from senior citizen to dental discounts.
www.redtagdeals.com

STATS. And don’t forget to assemble all of your website traffic stats, hits, visitor profiles and tracking into a monthly statistical report that will help guide you in the direction you want your website to go.
www.freestats.com/

SEARCH ENGINE. Visitors will want to search for specific subjects. You can offer a search engine.
www.atomz.com/

BULLETIN BOARD. Establish a moderated chat group where clients and photographers can discuss their specialized interest areas. www.quicktopic.com/

GUESTBOOK. Keep a record of your visitors by offering a guest book where they can register and make comments. htmlgear.lycos.com/specs/book.html ; www.dreambook.com/

And finally, for general information on how to add value to your website, check out http://www.ehow.com/home/home.jsp.

What is Namaste’?

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Namasté: A Sanskrit word meaning The Light of God in Me recognizes and honors The Light of God in You and in that recognition is our Oneness.

Over the last 12 months, I seem to keep hearing NAMASTE more and more! And I think this year, it is going to become a new buzz word! As we collectively all seem to be growing spiritually, it is predicted there will be a huge shift in the universe this year! It’s an exciting time we are living in. With shows like Larry King, Ellen and Oprah even joining in to spread the word of THE SECRET!

I first read the word NAMASTE in a Deepak Chopra book.
In context this word can be taken to mean any of these:
The Spirit in me meets the same Spirit in you.
I greet that place where you and I are one.
I salute the Light of life in you.
I receive the free spirit in you.
I recognize that within each of us is a place where peace dwells, and when we are in that place, we are One.
My energy salutes your energy.
The life in me sees and honors the life in you.
May the life within you be strong.
The light within me sees and honors the light within you.
In other words, it recognizes the equality of all, and pays honor to the sacredness and interconnection of all, as well as to the source of that interconnection. Namaskar is the term for such greetings, and is also used as a greeting itself.

You can find lots of information at NAMASTE.ORG.
There is even a NAMASTE SCHOOL in CHICAGO!
“Namaste Charter School is committed to the physical, social and academic well being of our students, staff and parents.”

There is a NAMASTE VINEYARDS - where the Spirit of the wine, honors the Spirit of the Vine.
NAMASTE TV - #1 South Asian Television network in America.
NAMASTE Publishing - which publishes many healing and transformational books, audios and DVD’s.
NAMASTE Direct - A group that provides capital for first time loans, to women in Central America.

I SALUTE THE LIGHT OF LIFE IN YOU!

The Second Sex? Beauvoir’s Essay In Modern Times

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

“The whole of feminine history has been man-made.” This statement is Simone de Beauvoir’s first conclusion in her essay, “The Second Sex.” Beauvoir states that this can be drawn from a general overview of history. She is remarking on the seeming appearance that men control the lives of women, and will only allow women to dominate when it suits their own interests and not the woman’s interests.

According to Beauvoir, men have always controlled women and their status in society, alternating them to fit their own interests. Men have control in marriage and childbirth, for instance, yet women also play a major part in these issues. Men, dominating the governing authority, can determine whether a woman can have an abortion (which during Beauvoir’s time, abortion was forbidden), yet women are the ones either risking their health by receiving unsupervised abortions or finding themselves overburdened by excessive pregnancies.

An interesting point that Beauvoir makes is that a married woman has a place in society, yet has no rights in that society, and an unmarried woman has every legal right that a man possesses, yet has no place in society. This, of course, may have been true during the time Beauvoir wrote her essay (1949), however, many things have changed since then. Although men may still be in more positions of authority, an unmarried woman certainly seems to have a place in society and can lead a successful life. Also, married women today have many rights in their own society.

Another point that Beauvoir makes is that women who have accomplished things are usually defined in ways other than their gender. Beauvoir gives the examples of Queen Isabella, Queen Elizabeth, and Catherine the Great, all of whom were, according to Beauvoir, “Neither male nor female – they were sovereigns.” She also mentions that women are only “on the margin of history,” achieving singular accomplishments, while men acquire great historical significance.

Beauvoir also explains the role of a peasant woman, who shares the man’s responsibilities while attending to her own. She has more prestige, yet a harder life, waking early in the morning and working all day, attending to daily chores, housework, and taking care of her family. Meanwhile, her husband has time to travel into town and drink with other men. A peasant woman has no time for these things. She is too busy running her household, while her husband has plenty of time for leisure. Yet, according to Beauvoir, the peasant woman is nevertheless labeled as “a beast of burden.” Beauvoir also describes the peasant woman has “having no time to care for her own health . . . she is prematurely withered and worn out, gnawed by sickness.”

Beauvoir also describes the conditions of a woman worker. She gets paid less than men because she is less specialized, yet when her work does equal that of a man’s, she still receives lower wages. Beauvoir states that, in general, women have fewer opportunities to succeed than men have. The best way for a woman to succeed is to have “masculine backing.”

Beauvoir also addresses the idea of marriage. She claims that marriage is an obstacle in the life of a woman if she wishes to be successful. She explains that parents teach their daughters to want to get married. As a result, the daughter sees marriage as something that she can benefit from, while she becomes less trained in special skills and thus less likely to succeed in a profession. This is another aspect that may have appeared obvious to Beauvoir at the time she wrote her essay, but seems not very applicable to the present time. Consider the average college female. She is most likely thinking of leading a successful professional career, while at the same time, viewing marriage as a favorable opportunity. There are many women who are successful in their careers and are also married. In the present time, I do not see the correlation between marriage and an unsuccessful career.

Beauvoir also addresses the antifeminist and what she considers their two arguments: “(1) women have never created anything great and (2) the situation of woman has never prevented the flowering of great feminine personalities.” Beauvoir feels that women have not created great things, not because they were unable, but because they obviously were not given the opportunity.

I feel that Beauvoir’s main argument, that femininity has been controlled by man, is accurate, but I feel that some of her points may not be relevant to the present age. Women seem to have quite a few more rights now than they did when Beauvoir wrote her essay. Women are now capable of successfully having careers and families, and are able to live unmarried with an honorable place in society. I do feel, however, that our society does reinforce the idea that marriage for a woman is “a most honorable career, freeing her from the need of any other participation in the collective life.” A woman is often taught that being a wife and mother is a noble career choice. However, there is also an opportunity for the woman to decide what she wants to do with her life. She is not forced into marriage. Even if society strongly communicates the message that perhaps the best career for a woman would be marriage, there seems to be little evidence that marriage stifles the professional career of a woman.

All Eyes on Alli vs. Obesity Match-Up - Over-the-Counter Weight Loss Drug That Packs a Punch

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

The launch of Alli (Orlistat) – the first FDA-approved over-the-counter anti-obesity drug - is exciting news for millions of obese and seriously overweight Americans. Alli, which is expected to hit drugstore shelves this summer, is comprised of a reduced-strength formula of the popular weight-loss drug Xenical (orlistat) and is the only weight-loss drug endorsed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and made available without a prescription.

Pharmaceutical giant and Alli manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline maintains the product rights to Alli through mutual agreement with Roche, the manufacturer of prescription-only Xenical. Xenical has a steady safety record and has proven to be moderately effective in helping obese individuals lose weight. Studies indicate that when patients take prescription Xenical in combination with a weight-loss program, patients lost an average of 12.4 pounds of weight less in six months — about double the amount lost by patients taking a placebo weight loss drug. Some studies have suggested that Alli, at half the dosage (and approximately one-third the price of prescription Xenical,) is almost as effective.

How it Works
Alli is made of the same chemical structure as Xenical. The drug obstructs dietary fat from being absorbed by the body after food consumption. The undigested fat is then removed from the body as bowel waste. As such, the drug it leads to a reduction in the absorption of fat by as much as 30%.
Alli will be available in 60 milligram capsules, to be taken three times a day with meals that contain fat. Officials at GlaxoSmithKline said that the drug works by “blocking about 25 percent of the fat in food a person eats. Because of the way it works, Alli must be used in conjunction with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet containing about 15 grams of fat per meal.” GlaxoSmithKline also reported that the drug helps people lose 50 percent more weight than dieting alone. Alli will cost consumers $12 to $25 a week.
“This is the only FDA-approved, over-the-counter weight-loss drug product,” Dr. Charles J. Ganley, the FDA’s director of the Division of Over-The-Counter Drug Products, said during a teleconference. “There are some products, primarily dietary supplements, that make weight-loss claims and those are not FDA-approved, although they are permitted to make these claims.”

Alli vs. The U.S. Obesity Epidemic

The FDA’s approval of the first over-the-counter drug for weight loss comes as the United States and other Western nations are struggling with an unprecedented obesity epidemic. According to the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics, 30 percent of American adults 20 years of age and older — more than 60 million people — are obese. An Additional 36 percent of Americans are considered overweight.

But is Alli the magic diet pill that dieters have been asking for? Maybe not, according to some researchers. Dr. Raj Padwal, an assistant professor of general internal medicine at the University of Alberta, is unsure of about the efficacy of the drug. “People may only lose 1 to 2 kilograms (2.2 to 4.4 pounds) on this half-strength dose [of Xenical]. Whether that is worthwhile is questionable,” said Padwal. “The occasional patient may benefit, but many patients may not. For those patients who need extra incentive to adhere to a low-fat diet, the drug may help.”

Alli is likely to cause very limited direct harm, but may also cause limited good, according to Dr. David L. Katz, an associate professor of public health and director of the Prevention Research Center at the Yale University School of Medicine. “[Alli] is a relatively ineffective weight-loss aid,” he said. “If availability of the drug distracts people from the tried-and-true approach to weight control - eating well and being active - then the FDA decision could prove more harmful than helpful, in spite of good intentions.”

Side Effects
According to research and trials, Alli has very few negative side effects. However, users be warned: eating a meal with too much fat while taking the drug can result in bowel changes such as loose stools, according to the FDA. Side effects typically occur in the first weeks of treatment and can be managed by following the recommended diet of about 15 grams of fat per meal, GlaxoSmithKline said. It is also recommended that users take a multivitamin once a day at bedtime because the drug can interfere with the absorption of some vitamins.
Other side effects may include:
• Oily skin spotting
• Gas with discharge
• Fecal urgency
• Fatty or oily stools
• Frequent bowel movements

Before Taking Alli
Prior consultation with a doctor is recommended before taking Alli. Be sure to:
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to orlistat or any other drugs.
• Tell your doctor or pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, especially anticoagulants (”blood thinners”) such as warfarin (Coumadin); medications for diabetes, such as glipizide (Glucotrol), glyburide (DiaBeta, Dynase, Micronase), metformin (Glucophage), and insulin; other medications for weight loss; pravastatin (Pravachol); vitamins such as beta-carotene and vitamins A, E, and K; and herbal products. If you are taking cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), take it 2 hours before or 2 hours after orlistat.
• Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had anorexia nervosa or bulimia, gallstones, thyroid disease, diabetes, kidney problems, or if you consistently have problems absorbing food (malabsorption syndrome).
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
• Inform your doctor about your medical history including drug or alcohol abuse in order to avert any medical mishap.

Also, people who have had an organ transplant should not take the Alli. Anyone taking blood-thinning medicines or being treated for diabetes or thyroid disease should consult a physician before using the drug, the FDA said.
Is Alli the end-all treatment that will fight the obesity epidemic once and for all? Studies indicate that it may certainly help, yet skeptics are equally as weary about its overall effectiveness. If you are considering taking Alli when it hits the shelves this summer, be sure to consult with your physician first.

Five Keys to Unlocking Your Golden Shackles

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

After years of success, you may find that your current job is not as
satisfying as it once was. Usually, this realization doesn’t come
overnight. Like termites gnawing a piece of timber, the process may take
months for you to notice.

Maybe you now know, after what seems to have been an eternity of effort,
that you will no longer be CEO of your organization. But instead of
seeing the writing on the wall and deciding to make a change, you decide
to stay inside your comfort zone rather than succumbing to the voices of
discontent within you.

Consider my two neighbors. One had been a successful insurance salesman,
but his company had been rocked by a scandal, his morale was low and he
tired of doing the same old thing. He longed to join a high-tech
company, maybe to sell computer software, but he didn’t even know the
difference between Windows 98 and 98 windows.

The other neighbor was the manager of a local bank branch. Within a short
period of time, the bank had been through three mergers. With each
change, a new sign was erected over the bank, branches were closed and
employees were laid off. He didn’t have much hope of staying employed in
his industry for the next three decades, his remaining working years.

Neither was happily employed. However, neither acted on this knowledge
because of the “golden shackles” keeping them in place. What were their
golden shackles? They had fallen into the financial traps that accompany
“success:” mortgages on nice homes, children to put through college and
payments for cars that befit their positions.

For both of my neighbors, all they had known were these industries. They
had been successful and had established themselves in their careers and in
their community.

If they were still in their 20s, they could change positions quite easily.
But, at middle age, the prospect of beginning again in a new industry,
both in status and in earnings, was painful. On the other hand, riding
the gravy train into retirement didn’t seem a likely possibility.

Are you in a position similar to my neighbors? Here are five steps to
help you remove the golden shackles that may keep you stuck in an
unsatisfying or insecure job:

1) Do lunch. Invite out professionals in your target industry. Don’t ask
for a job, just ask for advice. (Everybody is flattered to have someone
ask for his or her advice.) Find out what happens in a typical day. Ask
your lunch mate, If you had to do it all over again, would you? Maybe
you’d find that the job is not as desirable or glamorous as you might
think otherwise. On the other hand, informational interviews may help you
to make contact with potential hiring managers.

The neighbor in banking decided he wanted to be a brand manager, so he had
lunch separately with several assistant brand managers with a nearby
consumer products company. Because the company believed in the Southwest
Airlines hiring philosophy of hire for attitude and train the skills and
impressed by his initiative and transferable skills, they recommended him
to their boss, who hired him.

The play Six Degrees of Separation is based on the premise that we are
only six or fewer people away from meeting anyone in the world. Put this
theory to work and ask yourself, Whom do I know who can help me?

2) Take classes. The neighbor who wanted to work in high-tech enrolled in
seminar and evening computer classes. This helped him in in two ways.
First, he was able to learn about the industry and its jargon (every
industry has its own jargon). Second, he was able to show prospective
employers just how serious he was about his career change.

3) Join an industry association. Go to your library and research Gale
Research’s Encyclopedia of Associations. In this resource, you will find
groups for just about every professional endeavor, from the Association of
Celebrity Personal Assistants to the Zebra Breeders Association. Members
are more likely to be upper-level managers who could positively influence
your career, rather than entry-level.

4) Postpone new debt and other financial obligations. Stay both
physically and fiscally lean and mean. Don’t buy a new home or car to
take you away from thinking about your dissatisfaction at work. If you
are flexible financially and a new opportunity that may initially pay less
or require a move comes along, you’ll be more ready to take advantage of
it.

5) Work part-time or even volunteer. Years ago, I worked days at a
technical job in front of a computer screen, then sold jewelry at night in
a department store. Being single in a new city, I thought rather than sit
alone in my apartment or hang out in the local bar in the evenings, this
would be a great way to meet people. Much to my surprise, I found that
because I liked the interaction of sales rather than the solitary nature
of IT work, I decided to make sales my career. Working part-time is a low
risk way to dip your toe in the water, build contacts and test a new
industry.

A career change can be scary when you’re moving into middle age and
feeling, at least on the surface, comfortable. Initially, you may even
fail at a new endeavor. But you may also say to yourself, I only wish I
had done this sooner.

Studies of people on their deathbed reveal an interesting fact. When
asked, Do you have any regrets about your life? their answers fall into
two categories: I wish that I had taken a risk with a particular
relationship. and I wish I had taken a risk with a business
opportunity.

Nobody ever answers, Gee, I wish I would have just played it safe.

Killing our Youth with Messages of Hate

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

I wish I could say that I was surprised by the hateful comments that were recently made by sports star, Tim Hardaway, about another gay athlete, but I’m not. I wish I could say that I can’t believe the things that are being said about the deceased Anna Nicole Smith, but I can. America is full of hatred today-those that hate the war in Iraq, those that hate the President who put us there, those that hate gays, those that those minorities, those that hate illegal immigrants, those that hate high gas prices, those that hate Democrats, those that hate Republicans, and those that hate those people for hating those things…

I am an educator. In fact, I am an Assistant Principal in an elementary school in a small town in a Midwestern state. I see the affect this hatred has on a daily basis. I see the names that students call other students. I see children who have no respect for their classmates, their teachers, their parents, or themselves. Why should they, when they consistently hear degrading comments from everyone about everyone!

Today, while having indoor recess in a kindergarten classroom, four students were playing “house” in a corner of the room. The area was full of the necessary props-small kitchen appliances, a dining table, chairs, food, etc. The students, ages 5 and 6, were role-playing. They were “pretending” like kids so often do. However, I was saddened by the conversations they were having.

A little girl was telling a little boy that he could not be the “daddy.” In fact, she told him to leave her house immediately or she would call her brother to come beat him up, etc. When I confronted the little girl, she said they were just playing. But this, America, is not playing. This is mimicking, this is copying, this terrifying! We are teaching our children to hate others on a daily basis. Telling them to use violence to solve their problems. We have taught them to be violent in schools, to take a gun to school to solve their problems. Telling them that the problems they have are the result of someone else’s actions, and not their own.

I am sorry to say, that I, too, have succumb to the feelings of hatred. At this point in time, I, too, hate!
I HATE what we are doing to our country, our children, and ourselves…

Weight Loss Gurus - How Are They Created

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Have you ever wondered how a weight loss guru becomes a guru? You know, the funny thing about this phenomenon is that just because someone gets to be a guru, it doesn’t mean that they are actually the best in their field.

Think about this for a second: The weight loss industry is full of fly by night companies and products.

Seriously, how many people that had products in the 90’s still have products today?

Exactly.

Weight loss gurus are good at one thing: Short term promotion. They know that they are just the flavor of the month and that a new program, based a little bit on their program will be out shortly.

It’s the incestuous nature of the beast.

Did you know that most weight loss gurus don’t even write their own books? They are ghostwritten by another author but claimed by the guru.

Think “Milli Vanilli”, but with books.

Often times, the guru does know what he/she is talking about. However, when you have two gurus saying two totally separate things, who do you believe?

And, to make matters worse, even the people that follow the advice of the guru really don’t know exactly HOW they’ve lost weight. No, in most cases, these people help further propagate the bad information.

Remember that game “Telephone” that you played as a kid?

Conclusion

Make sure you do your own research based on your lifestyle and commitments before you start any type of program. Take guru information with a grain of salt and take action on what make sense for your circumstances. Of course, the take action part is what really gets people in shape.

Fun in Delaware

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Delaware is a winter wonderland in February but hosts numerous events throughout the month that make a great weekend getaway or fun additions to a family vacation. Motorcycle Mechanic Training

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Those looking for a position in motorcycle repair should look for a good school that offers motorcycle mechanic training on repair and overhaul of small engines. Students may receive training in small and large engines, and will eventually choose to specialize in the service and repair of just one type of vehicle.

Aspiring motorcycle mechanics will learn to repair and maintain motorcycles, motor scooters, dirt bikes and more. They often also learn to work on all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles. These small engines share many characteristics with motorboats and other outdoor equipment with larger engines, which may be explored in the classroom. Training may even cover automotive training and marine mechanics.

Repairing and adjusting electrical and mechanical devices, servicing transmissions and ignition systems, replacing and adjusting brakes, and making minor body repairs are all part of motorcycle mechanic training and occupation. Prospective motorcycle mechanics learn to listen to engines as a diagnostic tool and to examine frames to assess damage. Visual assessments of alignment and moving parts will be made by the student, as will the use of gauges and computers for making detailed assessments of engine operation.

Courses in communications and customer relations should be part of motorcycle mechanic training, as motorcycle mechanics will deal with customers in determining problems they are having with their equipment.

Due to the increasing complexity of motorcycles and other such equipment powered by small engines, most employers want their mechanics to have quality motorcycle mechanic training. Graduates with a degree from one of the top motorcycle mechanic schools will qualify for the better positions. Employers look for mechanical aptitude, knowledge of the fundamentals of small two- and four-stroke engines, and a good solid education in motorcycle repair.
