2008 Pontiac G8 Showcar to Debut at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

In Chicago: Pontiac has rolled out a showcar version of the new 2008 Pontiac G8, announcing that it is “a representative of the production GT model” that will hit showrooms early next year. The automaker has also released details about the G8 saying that it is going to be the new Pontiac flagship sedan and will be built in Adelaide, Australia.

The G8 is the first North American application of GM’s new global rear-wheel-drive architecture developed by Holden, GM’s Australian subsidiary. The G8 is an important vehicle not only because of its importance to Pontiac but because it is the sister vehicle of the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro.

The G8 showcar is equipped with 362hp V8 and optional six-speed manual transmission. It includes items that are not found on the production model such as 20 inch “shadow chrome” wheels and performance tires, a ride height lowered by about half-inch, high performance brake rotors with painted brake calipers, custom interior trim color with leather-wrapped dash and “phantom gray” exterior paint. Pontiac has also employed a concept monochromatic “modernized” Pontiac badge to get public opinion.

The production G8 lineup will be comprised of two models: G8 and G8 GT. The base G8 is equipped with a 3.6 liter DOHC V6 rated at 261 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission and a manual shift model.

The G8 GT for its part is given a 6.0 liter small block V8 rated at 362 hp at 5,700 rpm and 391 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. It is also equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode as standard feature. The six-speed manual transmission is going to be offered after the launching of the G8. Fuel economy numbers are not yet available for both models.

The G8 is fitted on a 114.8 inch wheelbase with 196.1 inch overall length. Its base has a curb weight of 3,885 pounds while the G8 GT weighs 3,995 pounds. GM says that G8 has a close to 50/50 front-to-rear weight balance ratio courtesy of its new architecture.

The global architecture for the G8 is designed to suit the production of both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive markets around the world. Pontiac has also stressed that the two production G8s will include four-wheel independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and traction control, electronic stability control, 18 inch aluminum wheels, power adjustable front seats, quality auto accessories like GM door handle covers, and fog lamps. A sport package will also be offered with the addition of 19-inch aluminum wheels and performance tires on the GT as well as a rear wing spoiler, leather shift knob, leather wrapped steering wheel, and alloy pedals.

The two production G8 models have distinct styling features. The G8 models are identified through its red tail lamp lenses and twin chrome exhaust outlets while the G8 GT models are given clear tail lamp lenses and quad chrome exhaust tips. Inside the cabin, the G8 GT models have an optional two-tone cloth or leather combination that pairs black with red or blue inserts and color matched instrument faces on certain exterior color combinations.

The G8 is going to compete with Dodge Charger and Nissan Maxima.

7 Ways to Shop for Engraved Personalized Gifts

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

The trend in giving gifts has never been better with the advent of engraved personalized gifts. Engraved personalized gifts put an end to tiresome gift searching and offers the best solution to gift giving dilemmas. Giving engraved personalized gifts also offers options to the giver. One can make up his own idea and texts that can be incorporated into the gift design. This adds a personal touch to the present which reflects the giver’s taste and ingenuity. The gift also accommodates the creativity and imagination of the giver. Engraved personalized gifts can also be designed in such a way to reflect the personality of the recipient. The gift can be customized in such a way to reflect the uniqueness and the interest of the receiver. This makes engraved personalized gifts truly personalized and special.

Engraved personalized gifts are best remembrance of special occasions and events. Unlike other customized gifts which easily wear and fade, engraved gifts can last longer. Because engravings do not easily chip or lighten, the method is the best for customizing gifts that will last a lifetime. This makes engraved personalized gifts ideal for giving on special events. They can also be commemorative of the occasion when the gift was given. A clock with an engraved “best wishes”, for example, is a great gift for a wedding day. A photo album engraved with the word “congratulations” is commemorative of graduation day. Engraved personalized gifts therefore reflect special memories of occasions and events.

Engraved personalized gifts make gift giving special. Engraved personalized gifts characterize the giver or the receiver’s personality. Engraved jewelries with a ladies name on it, for example, are good gifts for occasions such as on a Valentine’s Day or on a couple’s anniversary. Making a lady feel loved and special no longer needs designer jewelries with prohibitive costs. Seeing their names on a simple bracelet or a ring would be enough to make women feel pampered and loved. Engraved personalized jewelries also make the recipients feel more special because of the distinctiveness of the present. Mugs, pens and similar items that can be engraved with company logo also make engraved gifts an ideal corporate gift or give away. The personalized engravings make the company gift unique and distinct from other gifts and even create an impression of the company’s standard for quality.

There are a wide selection of items that can be used as engraved personalized gifts. Popular items include pens, mugs, bags, keyholders, albums and picture frames. Prices are also reasonable. Thanks to a number of companies offering gift- engraving services, giving elegant and customized gifts have become affordable and flexible to one’s budget. The prices of engraved personalized gifts depend on the intricacy and presentation of the design. Companies offering customized gift engraving also offer a number of designs and options to suit customer budget. Clients with lesser budgets, for example, can go for keychains instead of mugs. Engraved personalized gifts are therefore answers to giving elegant and unique gifts that are inexpensive and generally affordable.

General Motors Going Green to 2010

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

General Motors, world’s largest automaker and maker of quality auto parts like GM EGR valves, has recently announced its plans of producing a series of Hydrogen cars by 2010 as part of its strategy to push alternatives to conventional petrol.

During a presentation in Paul Springs, California, GM’s chief engineer on the fuel cell project, Mohsen Shabana has stated that the hydrogen infrastructure would not be in place by then, but technicians are already working to make sure that car production is ready by 2010.

Meanwhile, GM’s fuel cell concept vehicle, Sequel is using the third fuel cell generation which makes use of the lithium battery in storing braking energy. It is powered by an electric motor on the front axle and two wheel hub engines in the rear.

The new Sequel is able to travel 480 kilometers compared to its earlier model which can travel only 100 kilometers. The acceleration is also improved from 0 to 100km/h with time reduce from 20seconds down to 10 seconds. Top speed now stands at 145 km/h compared to the usual 100km/h.

The Sequel is purely a research vehicle of GM. The automaker has built only two units of this vehicle. To hasten the transition towards a hydrogen age, the automaker is planning to increase the test fleet to 100 vehicles and using the Chevrolet Equinox as its basis.

Ford has recently introduced a modified Ford Edge which is powered by a combination of compressed hydrogen and a plug-in battery pack that can be recharged with a standard home electrical cord.

It seems like General Motors is really serious about going green, as recently Iowa General Motors’ director of environment and energy programs Mary Beth Stanek said that the ethanol industry must strive to create higher blends of fuel. The announcement made at a biofuels forum is brought about by the desire of the automaker to increase production of flex-fuel vehicles.

Stanek also stressed that GM is committed to flex-fuel technology but also added that the automaker is very much open to the idea of developing an electric hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell technology. She said that the automaker has set a funding for research and development the only thing that is lacking is the corresponding support from the ethanol industry.

As answer to the points raised by Stanek, officials from the ethanol industry said that in order to make ethanol mainstream, there ought to be vehicles to burn it, infrastructure to make it and transport it. There is also a need for more technology to produce enough ethanol to meet demands.

Focus On Family… Commit To Staying Connected!

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

Ultimately, family is the closest relationship we experience in this life. At birth, we enter into a relationship with those we will share our lives with on a daily basis throughout our childhood. As we grow, the quality of that relationship dictates how we will interact with family and friends as our relationships expand. With this in mind focusing on your family relationships should take top priority.

It’s easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The best thing you can do for yourself and those you share your life with, is to stay grounded and make a conscious effort to stay connected with your family. Children require unlimited attention. During these times a few insignificant efforts on your part can transform into very significant feelings of acceptance as they mature. Children inevitably demand our attention most when we’re the busiest, they cry and prod for our attention, and seemingly babble endlessly about nothing at all. Take the time to stop what you’re doing and offer your undivided attention, if only for a moment. This small act can calm the restless feelings children acquire when the world is revolving so quickly around them.

Dedicate fifteen minutes a day for reading to small children, interact and play with them periodically during your time together. As they grow, consciously spend time with them daily, open topics for discussions and ask them about their day. Talking to your children can give you an early heads up and help prevent potential problems that may arise while they’re at school or away from home.

Select one day a week and devote it to family time, go on an outing, play a board game, or just throw a ball around. Avoid watching TV or DVD’s during this time, this should be a time for you to interact with one another in an effort to allow your family to bond and share what they’ve been doing all week. If you don’t have an entire day to devote to family, it is important to designate a specified period of time you can spend together. Please keep in mind quality time is of the essence, an hour or so will do very little for your families growth.

In addition to devoting one day a week to family, it is important to consistently interact and talk with one another daily. Traditionally, dinner time has been designated as the time for family discussions. In this day and age, society and work demand a big part of our day. Long gone are the days when Moms stayed home tending to household chores, raising kids, and had dinner ready to serve when Dad came through the door at five. Few of us have that luxury now. This doesn’t mean that you can’t designate a meal time as family time. You can sit down with your family for breakfast before starting your day, or you can designate dinner time to be the time you can keep connected.

Whatever your choices are when establishing your priorities to focus on family growth, it’s likely everyone won’t consider the time chosen to be a convenience. If you are just beginning to start this tradition, there will be members of your family that may need some adjustment time to get accustomed to the idea. Be patient but firm in your conviction to bring your family closer. Your time and effort will produce well rounded kids, and strengthen marriages or relationships with your significant other. If you have dating age teenagers, invite their friends to join you for dinner regularly, it will set the mold for them when they begin to establish their own family priorities.

Anticipating Anticipatory Anxiety

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

You’re going to the dentist – and you feel anxious. You’re about to go take a test, and you feel anxious. You’ve been asked to have a meeting with your supervisor, and you feel anxious. You might just be anxious anticipating another day! Anticipatory anxiety is a common discomfort for millions of people. Some people can even get anxious anticipating the arrival of the anticipatory anxiety! Anticipatory anxiety is the physical symptoms of increased heart rate, increased pulse, shallow rapid breathing and increased tension which can cause upset stomachs and headaches and perhaps increased sweatiness, all of which arise when thinking about an upcoming event.

General anxiety is also often caused by thinking; however, the thinking may be about anything: a past relationship, ongoing financial issues, problems on the job…. Anticipatory anxiety is specifically about some particular event about to occur. What we think might happen can cause great anxiety. If we magnify the potential (imaginary) problems of the event to such an extent that in our mind it becomes a catastrophe, our anxiety could reach such levels that we become dizzy and may even pass out. If we imagine the upcoming event as being uncomfortable or embarrassing, then our anxiety will be less severe, though still quite noticeable. The difference between anticipatory anxiety that is incapacitating and merely moderately uncomfortable is entirely rooted in what we are thinking about the upcoming event.

Truly, any thinking about an upcoming event is conjecture. We really don’t know what will occur. We guess, we fabricate, we imagine and yet we don’t know, which in itself can be a cause of anxiety – especially if we think we not knowing somehow equates to instability. Nevertheless, we do fabricate outcomes of upcoming events and those outcomes are generally negative which causes the anxiety. If we were to imagine positive outcomes we would be much less anxious, maybe even excited. Also note that anxiety and excitement can share the same kinds of symptoms: elevated heart rate and pulse, shortened and shallow breathing, tension….Before a person diagnoses themselves with anxiety, they might want to explore the possibility that they are actually excited.

The key to lowering and perhaps even reducing anticipatory anxiety is an awareness of thinking. If we can capture those fleeing internal sentences and/or internal images which we have created about an unknown future, we can analyze them. More often than not, these internal fabrications are not realistic. We may see ourselves at the dentist and in excruciating pain. We may imagine ourselves taking a test and totally unable to answer any question. We foresee the meeting with our supervisor as ending up in being reprimanded or even fired. All of these scenarios take place in our mind without a shred of evidence. Yet, the mind reacts as if it’s a fact and the body reacts accordingly.

So, how do we combat anticipatory anxiety? First, be aware of the physical symptoms and then take a moment to relax. You can do this by taking a few deep inhalations and exhalations. Then examine the content of your thinking, your internal dialogue and your mental pictures, which occurred at the onset of the anxiety. Counter the unrealistic and irrational thoughts with more realistic and evidence based thoughts. For example, if you see yourself in excruciating pain at the dentist, counter that with the knowledge that you will actually be feeling no pain due to the Novocain or other pain inhibitor you will receive. Test anxiety can be countered with envisioning yourself answering the questions rather than not – it’s purely a matter of imagining something negative vs. imagining something positive. And, if you have studied for the test and know the material, then it’s far more realistic to have a positive outcome than a negative one.

Why the mind tends towards the negative rather than the positive is a mystery. Yet, there is no doubt that anticipatory anxiety is purely a mind game. You can win the game if you are aware of your thinking and able to challenge the irrational, unrealistic thinking and replace it with more realistic thinking. Realistic thinking is not necessarily positive thinking, it is more objective thinking sometimes called scientific thinking because it is based on evidence, not conjecture. So, next time you start to feel anxious, become a scientific thinker and examine the evidence. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised to find the source of your anxiety vanish like clouds dispersing after a storm.

The Changing World of the Leather Briefcase

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

The leather briefcase—the quintessential mark of the successful businessman. Made to exude quality and professionalism, the briefcase originally was just that—a case to carry legal briefs to court. In today’s business world, however, the briefcase has had to evolve significantly.

No longer just a means to carry paper, the briefcase is often now required to carry cell phones, BlackBerries, business cards, laptops, computer disks, even lunch. As the essentials for doing business have morphed significantly, so has the briefcase.

Rather than simply being comprised of paper file shaped pockets and hard exteriors, briefcases have become more versatile in styling and features. Sometimes referred to as "saddlebags," "messenger bags," or "man-bags," the new styles include special compartments for gadgets and computer equipment, while still retaining space for paper (a significantly decreased item).

Yet successful businessmen can still make a statement of quality and panache by choosing a case made of supple and stylish leather. Most now come with handles and shoulder straps so you can carry it as you like, and many styles feature a large flap to conceal the gadget pouches for a more streamlined look.

Most briefcases are derived from a limp satchel used in the fourteenth century for carrying money and valuables. Godillot of Paris first used a hinged iron frame on a carpetbag in 1826. Then followed the Gladstone bag and the Rosebery, an oval-top bag. Eventually these became the more recent metal frame briefcase that opens like a laptop on the table in front of you.

Today, however, you’re likely to see a briefcase that acts more as a college student’s knapsack, meaning it sits on the floor and the files within can be accessed from the top. This style allows for the addition of outside pockets that remain oriented upward, so today’s wheeler and dealer can bring along cell phones and laptops without worrying about them falling out of the case.

Soft leather, often with shoulder straps, has replaced traditional hard rectangular cases. The soft leather cases are more conductive to packing and expanding, plus they project a friendlier image.

In choosing the bag that is right for you, consider the following:

Color. Black remains the most professional and brown somewhat more casual, but there are also briefcases cropping up in designer colors such as mustard or cranberry. Choose one that both fits your personality and your industry.

Structure. Are you carrying around paper that needs to stay flat, computer equipment that might get banged around or irregularly shaped items such as snacks or personal grooming products? Some bags have less structure and will mold around your items comfortably, others will provide the overall protection your equipment needs. Perhaps make a list of all the items you’ll want to carry to ensure your new briefcase will accommodate everything.

Style. Does it have handles, straps or both? Do the straps resemble carry-on luggage straps, or are they too reminiscent of women’s handbag straps? Does the entire item look more like a backpack or messenger bag than a professional briefcase? Something that may look comfortable and casual might not look as well with a suit. Consider what you’ll be wearing when you use the briefcase and choose accordingly.

Compartments. Are there special compartments for laptops, cell phones, etc.? Will you use all the compartments provided? Take a hint from female shoppers: if the bag has too many specialized compartments, it might just be a waste of space and money. Only get as many compartments as you’ll actually use. Sometimes larger, less defined pouches can be more versatile.

A briefcase is most successful when you find you don’t have to carry another bag for or fill your pockets with the stuff that won’t go in the case. But when you find the perfect briefcase—leather, classy, stylish—you won’t go anywhere without it.

Working For Yourself VS Working For Someone Else

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

Do you work day in and day out, knowing you will have to punch out on the clock just to eat lunch??

At the end of your work week are you satisfied or do you feel like you have accomplished nothing?? Let’s be quite honest with each other who in their right mind enjoys working for someone else making them happy and even worse rich. Are you the one buying new sports cars every year and upgrading that condo to a 7 bedroom house in the middle of the country club?? I bet only 10% of us are able to do that working for someone else, and do you know how they do that??

The people who make their lives better while working for someone else simply accomplish their dreams by saving every penny and never having a lickety split bit of fun. They then get what they want when they are close to retirement and have spent most of their lives making other peoples dreams come true knowing “eventually” they would get theirs as well.

What are your biggest fears of being your own boss? That is a very important question that only you can answer. Is it the fear of denial, or rejection, fear of failing, or let me guess you are just scared because you don’t want to miss the BIG company picnic right?? Well stop being afraid and tell yourself that the only person who can make your life better for you is you. If you think to yourself you can start an online business and you really do deep down inside know that you can then you will not fail.

If you go into a situation, or any situation for that matter with the attitude that you can and will make this happen then the chances of you failing ot getting nowhere are almost non exsistant. Tell yourself that you want to be the boss with the nice fancy cars and the house inside the country club, or go all the way and own that country club. Take the first step into training your mind that you will succeed in everything you want to do and who you would rather be.

Having a business at home is a wonderful experience and I wish everyone could see how much fun and stress free it really is. First thing you need to do is sit and think, what do you want your business to consist of or be about, and then after you have that in mind we can move on to step 2. Bad Credit Homeowner Loans – Avail Without Credit Worries

Saturday, September 30th, 2006

Homeowners usually are at ease and confident when they approach a lender for a loan. But not all lenders will approve a loan to homeowners if they are tagged bad credit since lenders are not sure of timely return of loan. However, now with growing competition in the loan market, host of lenders are providing bad credit homeowner loans on relaxed conditions.

Your bad credit is not a hindrance in availing bad credit homeowner loans. This is for two major reasons. First because bad credit homeowner loans are secured loans, approved against that very home of yours. So if you repeat the mistake of payment default, still the lender recovers the loan amount on selling your property placed as collateral with the lender. This makes the loan deal with bad credit people a safer affair for the lender. Secondly, since you are tagged bad credit, usually lenders charge higher interest rate and for earning good interest they are willing to make a deal with you. But not necessary you would be paying higher rate of interest. If your home has higher equity in it and your current repaying capability is great and your loan requirement also is not big, then surely lender can approve a lower interest rate. Moreover on comparing lender, bad credit homeowners can have a deal with comparatively lower interest rate.

The loan amount under bad credit homeowner loans depends on annual income and bank statements of the borrower. Lenders give up to 25 years to repay bad credit homeowner loans. This results in reduced payments for the loan installments which also is crucial for recovering from bad financial phase.

Make sure to compare as many bad credit homeowner loans providers for individual interest rates. You are bound to locate a suitable lender for your repaying capability. And pay off the loan installments in regular manner so that you escape another debt and at the same time your credit score moves higher making the loan availing easier in future.
