Samsung Combines Music With Motion - A Phone To Rival The Ipod?

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

My first impression of the Samsung X830 was one of mistaken identity. I glanced across the mass of papers and Mobile News Magazines piled up on my colleges desk and asked; have you had a new MP3 player?

The rectangular device he was using had music displayed on it with the songs and artists that were playing scrolling across the display, the music was being changed using the built-in Jog-Wheel, Earphones were extruding from the side, how was I to know it was a phone, looked more like an Ipod to me.

It surprised me because I thought I knew most things about most mobile phones, but I do think I can be excused as mobile phones and MP3 players are now becoming one and the same…

Welcome to the World of Hybrids…

Mobile Phones are evolving all the time, Some follow evolution cycles and look more like PDA’s than phones, some evolve into the slimmer, smaller versions of their ancestors and some turn their hand to the musical arts.

The Samsung X830 is a really good specimen of music evolution. It features a MP3 player that is compatible with the AAC (itunes & Ipod) and WMA (Windows Media player)music files, which is a fantastic feature as most dedicated music devices will only operate one type or the other.

The X830 features 1GB of internally memory which can be dedicated to music storage or combined to hold both your songs and you photos and video. Music can be controlled using the Jog-Wheel interface; this is a cool feature for operating the handset from inside the depths of your pocket. The sound quality is top rate with the only disadvantage of this phone being that it’s missing that loud-speaker for playing songs out loud. Songs can be used as ring-tones but the handset is not quite a beat box, but then what Ipod model has speakers built into it?

The Benefits Of Great E-Mail Marketing

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

There are many purposes of e-mail marketing, like advertising in order to recruit new clients, introducing new set of products or services to an existing client base.

E-mail advertising is far more cost effective than direct marketing through regular mail, telemarketing or door-to-door sales.

Retain your old clients

Repeat customers contribute 60% of the annual income to most of the online companies. If you constantly try to attract new customers and get market share away from your competitors, you may forget your existing customers and they will forget you. And you may lose your source of profitable sales.

You can run an e-letter campaign. You can send business cards or e-letters to all your existing customers. You can make marketing to your existing clients easy by:-

1 ) Repetition: Success to all business, whether it be online or offline, depends on your commitment to delivering the newsletters consistently. Sending e-mails or you company’s newsletters on a regular basis is a very reproductive method to send out your message to your customers. Depending on how often your customers decide to buy products or services, you can decide the frequency of sending out your e-mails or letters.

2 ) Write something that steals attention: If you want each of your marketing tactic to positively support your online company, the key feature is quality. Hence the messages you create should be meaningful, contextual and more importantly interesting to the reader, ie: your message should include some interesting graphic elements. Your e-mail campaign can offer expert advice, entertaining and eye catching features and special discounts available only via your e-letter. You can always outsource this if you don’t have anyone among your staff who can create such a material for you.

E-mail newsletter

If there are no potential prospects or a list of people who opted in to receive your messages, instead you use a list that you bought, or you are doing it without warning the people on you list, then you are sending a spam; you are considered as a spammer. And once you are labeled as a spammer, you will be immediately be put on millions of black lists. And it very hard to get out of it.

That’s why, don’t take this risk and go for opt-in e-mails only.

And, lastly, you can outsource to a company that professionally does the job of automation. It will be very tedious for you to send thousands of e-mails, managing lists, subscribing and unsubscribing people. Automation is the best solution for this.

The Christic Seed

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Buried within each individual consciousness is the Christic seed – that aspect of the Christ-consciousness that is God’s love, fully present within the center of being to be called upon when the embodied self is ready to allow love to expand and separation to be erased from awareness. This seed of truth is the knowledge that all are held within a universal context of infinite love that lies at the heart of Creation. It is based on the disappearance of what has been historically present as the fear of harm and the need for self-protection that come from feeling separate and alone. Within each psyche, however, lies the knowledge that this is not true. That it has never been true. That instead of fear being the formidable ruler governing human action that it has been, love and cooperation can become the equally powerful means by which humanity engages with each other upon the earth and builds a new society.

The seed of Divine love implanted within the heart is coming further into awareness now, held lightly by some and more potently by others as that which generates new behaviors and a new, unfolding outlook on life. These new orientations toward life and toward relationships need to blossom as a flower does after it first emerges as a bud. They need to effect change on all levels of society and within all levels of each individual being. For love that has been born within the human heart today is meant to become the firm foundation for a new society and a new way of relating to the world. It is not an event that can be postponed any further. It is an event whose time is now and whose practicality will seem ever more possible as the old ways of doing things seem less realistic and less successful than before.

Over and over the human heart must repeat to itself when fear of any kind arises – I am not the fear that separates; I am the love which joins. I am not the self that seeks its own way in life; I am the self that seeks to prosper the ways of all. These affirmations, held deeply within the heart’s consciousness, will begin to shower upon the outer self new possibilities for converting former behaviors that have been limiting, into actions that can be more open and expansive. For in all things, love can show the way if it is not limited and constrained by self-protection and the sense of endangerment.

The Christic seed within each heart is waiting to be born. It is waiting to be given permission to come into the light of day and to operate as the precious and beautiful flower of Divine love that each human has the right and the power to express. When the day dawns that all of mankind shall have unfolded this seed that has lain dormant for so long, then the world will know itself to be a place of peace and beauty – one in which God’s mercy and abundant love can find a home.

Tips for Choosing Child Bedroom Furniture

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

When choosing child bedroom furniture parents should take great care and consideration in what they pick. Their child will be spending and incredible amount of time in their room, and the things they see everyday will have an impact on their young minds. A kids room is their special place. The things they see in it on a daily basis will inspire their imagination, effect their attitude, and mold how they see themselves.

Colors Make A Difference

As adults, what we see effects how we see ourselves; the same philosophy holds true for kids. The subconscious mind is like a vast super computer that effects us in ways we do not understand. It has been proven through different studies that colors inspire different thoughts without a person’s permission. While bright colors may inspire happy, pleasant thoughts, dark colors may bring more negative thoughts. Extensive studies have been done to determine the thoughts certain colors stimulate. I recommend for parents to research this interesting topic when searching for child bedroom furniture.

Organization Now Could Mean Organization Later

An organized room can cause kids to see the value of organization. Because of the massive amount of time that kids spend in their rooms, everything about it could mold mind-sets that stick with them. If the room is very organized and has a place for everything, then a kid has a better chance of being organized throughout their entire life. This will yield a lot of positive results throughout their lifetime. A room that is thrown together with hand-me-downs and does not have a lot of order, instills disorganization into a kids mind early on. Because of this they could struggle at school and have other problems throughout life.

A Child’s Room Inspires Their Interests

What we see effects our thoughts. When we think of something long enough it effects our personality. Our personality effects our overall life. When choosing child bedroom furniture a great kids bookshelf filled with colorful, beautiful, kids books would be a great way to inspire your child to read. You won’t have to harp on them that they should read. They will just see the books very often, think about them a lot, and in turn, begin reading. On the other side, a T.V. stand with movies and video games underneath will inspire your kids to watch T.V. and play video games. They will see it a lot, think about it a lot, and in turn play it a lot. In this scenario you will have to constantly be on your kids to read, because they will be inspired by the T.V. stand in the middle of their room to watch T.V. The old term “Out of sight, out of mind” really holds true. The opposite “In sight, in mind” also holds true. Whatever you want your kids to think about and dwell on the most should be in their room. They will probably see it more than anything else.

A Kid Should Take Pride In Their Room

A child that is proud of their room will make a greater effort to keep it clean. Give your child a limited choice in picking out their own furniture. Make sure you narrow down the search with choices you are happy with and then let them choose. Teaching kids to appreciate the things that they have is a great value to instill in your children. If there is a certain bedroom set that your kid loves but is too expensive to purchase all at once, allow your kid to work towards it. Let it be part of their Christmas and birthday presents. Let them work and use their allowance to purchase some things. They will take pride in what they have because they had a major part in picking it out and acquiring it. This process teaches children many life lessons. They learn to make choices, set goals, work towards goals, save up for what they want, and appreciate their living space and possessions. All of this from child bedroom furniture. Who would have thought?

The Coming Flu Pandemic and Its Vaccine

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

For quite a while I have known that the Lord was going to release a flu virus into the world and a few months ago Gabriel one of God’s head messenger angels cam and prophesied it through me on this article site.

Today I was with a friend and I spoke some words from Jesus to him and then asked him if I could ask Jesus a question. I asked about the flu virus and the Lord said yes it was coming not just for the wicked but that the Lord was going to lay the ax to the root and cut out the unfruitful vine.

The Lord told me that the virus would not just affect the wicked, but the virus is for the laodician church and for the unfruitful branches. The words media have been focused on the bird flu, but I think this flu is going to be different to this one.

Jesus promises that he is going to vomit out the laodician church, and I think it’s high time that the lukewarm church are taken off the face of the earth so that the passionate can rise up together in the last days harvest.

The world is full of preachers and prophets preaching a peace and prosperity gospel and few big ministries are teaching a life of repentance and holiness. Few people are teaching that you cannot serve the world and God at the same time and therefore the true gospel is being neglected.

A flu virus taking upwards of five hundred million lives will bring a holy fear of God on the whole world as the virus sweeps from country to country.

When it does sweep the world make sure you have your vaccine make sure God is your only God and your treasure really is stored in heaven and not on earth.

Get Creative: Sell on Ebay And Make Some Great Extra Cash

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Have you ever felt that you’ve had the perfect item to sell on eBay? Have you done your research and you know that others are selling the same thing with great success? Yet when you list the same item, you’re shocked when you don’t even get one bid. Why is that? You know it’s a hot item, and you’ve heard all the buzz, but now you’re stuck with an item no one will bid on. Often, even the hottest items won’t sell on eBay due to a saturated market. Digital cameras are very popular but how many cameras does the average person need? So what are you going to do? Don’t give up! This just might be the place where you need to do a little creative marketing.

First, remember that it’s always important to test market your product first. Buy a small number of the item you’re interested in selling on eBay. If those sell as you had hoped then you can buy more. Never buy in bulk until you know how well your product will do. You don’t want to end up with a garage full of electronic widgets that no one wants.

When selling on eBay run your test market on two or three different items at the same time as opposed to just a single item. This will save you time as you can simply continue with what works and discontinue what doesn’t.

Getting Creative

Try adding extra value to your items. Everybody loves the product that comes with a free gift. For example, if you’re selling blenders, try adding a set of free spatulas or 101 favorite blender recipes. If it’s an electronics product you might offer a free carrying case or set of headphones for an auto device. No matter how small the added value gift might be, never over look the power of the word “Free”.

Remember that selling on eBay is like any other business, whether on the web or a brick and mortar store. You must do your planning and market research, offer something unique, and pin point your target market. Actually writing out a business plan will give you a clear image of .you want to do as well as help you identify problems before they arise.

One of the most important things to remember when selling on eBay is to not get discouraged if your first test markets don’t work out. Even the top eBay sellers had to start someplace and you’d probably be surprised to learn that many of them weren’t successful in the beginning either. It’s a trial and error game and in the end persistence is what pays off.

Finally remember that everything old is new again and that timing can truly be everything. It’s amazing how something that isn’t selling well today can suddenly become tomorrow’s hot item. Take for instance sewing. While a number of years ago the interest in home sewing dwindled and home made clothing was not considered fashionable, today it is on the rise again. Due to a struggling economy and the desire to save money as well as sewing machines and patterns that can make anyone look like a couture seamstress, sewing is gaining in popularity again. The key to selling on eBay is to become aware of rising market trends. What’s the latest hot item with the stars in Hollywood? What’s new with the teen crowd? Read and research all the time and catch those trends and fads as they form and you might just find your next big item to sell on eBay.

Why You Should Set Goals When You Have ME

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

As human beings we are naturally goal-driven. Our brain needs to have goals in order that we know how to behave. For example, we wouldn’t get up in the morning and get the bus, if our goal wasn’t to get to work. We wouldn’t eat if our goal wasn’t to relieve our hunger, we wouldn’t clean our shoes if our goal wasn’t to get them clean. There is nothing that you do which isn’t goal-driven. We need goals in order to function as a human being.

When you have ME you may still have many goals that you want to achieve – like going to work, going for a walk, socialising with friends, but you are frustrated because you can’t fulfil this basic function of yours – to obey your brain’s desire to fulfil those goals. There are two things you can do however. You can learn to create smaller goals that you can achieve and that you can succeed at to reduce the frustration and you can do what the world’s most successful people do – make goals for your future.

Only 3% set goals for their life

At Yale University in 1953 a survey showed that only 3% of students set goals for their life. In 1973 when these previous students were reassessed, it was found that these 3% were more successful in every area of their lives than the remaining 97% who had not set goals.

Having ME doesn’t stop you making long-term goals, in fact it is imperative that you do so because a lack of a bright vision of the future is a prerequisite for depression and lethargy. Having a goal will help to chase the blues away, give you something positive to focus on, a future to work towards which creates excitement and a supply of healthy, positive chemicals to the body and it also gives you a reason for carrying on when you are at the lowest ebb of your life. It also makes it far more likely that you will recover from ME because once you have a goal, you naturally behave in a way that will take you towards it.

It is a well known fact that the most successful people in the world, like Richard Branson, several presidents of the United States, Olympic athletes, Nelson Mandela, Bill Gates for example, Andre Agassi, all work towards their own goals, planning them, looking at the options, making decisions and above all ACTING, step by step. This is what you have to do in order to get yourself out of the pit of despair and ill-health. Plan for a healthy future and work towards it.

“If you continue to have the same thoughts … you will continue to get the same results. ”
The saying is that “if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got”. Did you know that 99% of your thoughts are the same today as they were yesterday? That means that if you continue to have the same thoughts, and it is your thoughts that dictate your actions, you will continue to get the same results. Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Look at your life today and recognise that whatever you are doing and whoever you are doing it with are direct results of the thoughts you have had in the past and the actions you have taken ie what job you did, who you married, what course you did at university etc. In fact, your life now, is the sum of all the thoughts you have ever had in your life up until this moment and the actions you have taken as a result of those thoughts. That is why you need to change your thoughts, which will change your actions, which will ultimately change the result.

Paul Mckenna said that his life changed 10 years ago when he sat down and asked himself – if I continue thinking the way I’ve always thought, doing what I’ve always done, I will continue along the course I am on, and where will I be in 5 years time? This thought was so horrifying to him (and he wasn’t sick) that he sat down and asked himself what was most important to him and what he wanted out of life. He came up with some goals and in order to achieve those goals he had to change his habits of thinking and acting so far in order to achieve them. Once a radio DJ he is now a world famous hypnotist and millionaire.

This is why your brain needs a goal. A part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System is responsible for filtering information from the outside world into your brain. Two million pieces of information per second are hitting the RAS and the RAS can only filter 126 pieces of information per second into the brain. A massive difference. Therefore it has to decide which information to allow in, and in order to do that it needs to know what it is that you want. For example, if you are interested in Ford Fiestas, it will allow all information about Ford Fiestas that it comes across to enter your brain – if you are pregnant it will allow information about pregnancy into your brain. It can’t possibly accept everything. I’m sure you’ve noticed how when you are pregnant all you see are pregnant women everywhere that you never noticed before, or the fact that everyone else seems to be driving a Ford Fiesta all of a sudden! Therefore, there is no such thing as ‘reality’. Reality is actually only your own personal perception of the world depending entirely on what is important to you and what you are focusing on. This means that you have to focus on something in order to get it, otherwise you will miss information and opportunities required in order to get what it is you want.

If you want to get well, you need to focus on good health … not sickness

Did you know that race drivers when in a skid are taught never to look at the wall they don’t want to crash into, because if they do then the odds are that they will hit it. Which means that if you want to get well you need to focus on good health and not sickness. Remember the saying “Be careful for what you wish for”. This is based in fact – it is science and a law of nature that you attract whatever it is that you focus on the most. The RAS accepts what you concentrate on the most and screens out the rest – that means that if you are concentrating on what is wrong with your life it will allow in anything that it sees as being relevant to being wrong in your life, and screen out any information about what is positive in your life.

What does your life look like right now? Is everything fine? Not if you’ve got M.E. it isn’t. So making a goal for your life is what you need. You have to look ahead and create a vision of a healthy future. You have to write that goal down and keep it in the forefront of your mind so that your RAS knows what you are focusing on and feeds in the information that you need.

“Remember that a 1% change of direction every day, adds up to a massive change of direction over a year.

You then have to think about all the things you can think of, however bizarre, that you could do to take you forwards towards that wonderful goal and you need to choose some actions that you can begin to take straight away – whether it is trying a new therapy, watching a funny video to keep your mood up, reading another book, walking a few paces etc. They have to be achievable actions but not so easy that it doesn’t challenge you to change what you’ve been doing. At the end of each week assess how you’ve been doing, reward yourself if you’ve done well, and decide on actions for the following week. The Dalai Lama said that a journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step – and that is what you are embarking on. Just put one foot in front of the other, then again, and again, and again – and you will succeed. Read your goal regularly to keep it alive for the RAS in your brain. Remember that a 1% change of direction every day, adds up to a massive change of direction over a year.

The very act of setting a goal and writing it down will immediately point you in the direction of that goal. It will empower you to know that despite ME you are taking control of your life and it will provide you with a sense of purpose and set you on the journey towards the attainment of your ultimate aspirations. There is always something that you can do to help yourself however severe your ME is, so stop feeling helpless and start taking control.

There is no second cavalry that is going to come over the hill and rescue you – you have to use your own, extremely powerful force, the most amazing weapon that everyone has and few people know how to use to best advantage, and that is your brain. You have to harness the power of your brain to get yourself out of this situation. However sick you are, you are not helpless. You have to tell your brain clearly what it is that you want – in as much detail as possible – and it can then do its job of helping you to achieve it.

Never give up

Good luck with your recovery, and remember that there are many of us out here who have already recovered, so never give up. There is no such thing as failure, only feedback. If you try one thing and it doesn’t work, then try another. Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, when asked how he felt about failing to create light for the 700th time said “I haven’t failed, I haven’t failed at all, I have succeeded in finding 700 different ways in which light doesn’t work, so I am 700 ways nearer to my goal of finding out what DOES work”.

How You Can Make $500 to $12,000 a Month in the Natural Health Movement, Without Selling Supplements

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

How would you feel if you could quit your job tomorrow and start making your living doing something you love involving health or raw foods? And what if I showed you how to do this and make even more money than you are making now? Sounds enticing?

You can easily turn this into a reality. Whether you want to make an extra $500 dollars a month doing what you love, or totally turn your life around and make a nice 6-figure income, you can reach your financial goals doing something that you love.

I know how to do this because I’ve been working in the health/raw food field since I was 21 (and I’m only 30 now). Along the way, I tried everything from teaching raw-food “uncooking” classes and working at a retreat center, to publishing a magazine. Admittedly, some of these ventures were not the most efficient ways of making myself successful.

What I have created for myself now, however, is an efficient system that generates passive income and that builds a solid foundation I can rely upon for the rest of my life. I don’t have to sell supplements or a range of health products I don’t believe in, and I’m not stuck in a multi-level scheme company, either. In fact, I am totally free to create and sell what I want, while working at home.

You want to know the best part? ‘Home’ can be wherever I want it to be. I just to live in Canada, but I now live most of the year in Costa Rica, and I’ve traveled to several exotic locations in the last years (Bali, Tahiti, Brazil, and many others). Whether I’m working at home or on a tropical island, the income keeps rolling in, and I’m doing something that brings real value and helps a lot of people.

Want to learn more? Here’s my first lesson:

“You Don’t Have to Be An Expert”

What if I told you that you don’t even need credentials to make money in the natural health movement? That’s right. You don’t need a degree. You don’t need any diploma!

In fact, just getting a diploma won’t help you unless you do this one thing, which is the only requirement to making money in the natural health movement:

You need to add value to other people’s lives, and get paid for it.

Chances are that if you’re reading this you know more about health and nutrition than 99.99% of the people out there. That makes you qualified to say something about it. Also, if you’ve done something that other people haven’t done, like having improved your health, then you can teach it to them.

The value you add to other peoples’ lives is really going to be the measure of your success. It’s what you’re going to get paid for.

Opportunities Abound

There are so many opportunities to make money in the natural health movement, it’s mind-boggling. Unfortunately, chances are that you don’t recognize them.

Most people’s initial ideas of how to make money in this field are usually not very good. What you want is something that will bring you maximum cash, for minimum effort, while helping as many people as possible.

You also want to work once, and be paid over and over and over again. So opening a raw-food restaurant probably isn’t the best idea.

So what are the best opportunities? While I cannot possibly go into all of the details in this short article, I’ll give you a few clues on some of the best ways to make money with your passion, whatever your passion may be.

Opportunity #1 — Selling Information

People are hungry for information— the right kind of information— and are willing to pay a premium price for it. Think about when you found out the truth about health… If someone could have given you that information packaged in some way that would have been really easy for you to understand, wouldn’t you have been willing to pay for that?

You can package any information you know (or have access to) in an information product and sell that for a premium price. To do it, you don’t have to be an experienced writer, you don’t have to be extremely technology-savvy, and you don’t have to invest a lot of money. You can create your own info-product in less than a week and be making money for years and years and years to come.

An information product can be a book, an e-book, a manual, a home-made CD, a photocopied manual, or a combination of multi-media. It doesn’t have to be fancy, it doesn’t have to look very professional at first, and it can sell at a very high profit margin if the information you have to share is good.

Now I sell for tens of thousands of dollars of information products each month. These include e-books, CDs, printed books, and what I call “courses”. I started with just a few, and created more over time. Some of them took me months to prepare, and others just took a week.

Whether you’re writing books, teaching classes, or starting your own website, you will need your own information-products if you want to be a big success.

Opportunity #2 — The Future Is Online

According to Paul Zane Pilzer, professor of Economics specializing in monetary trends and author of the book “The Next Millionaires”, the Internet has barely gotten started. In his book, he shows why home based entrepreneurs will be among the richest in the new economy.

If you plan to make a living in the natural health movement, you should have your own website. However, please realize that the idea most people have of what a website should do is completely outdated and no longer works.

The reason most people fail to earn money with their websites is that they don’t understand what their website should do for them. They are trying to become the “ultimate” resource of information and just want to add page after page until they build a massive online ‘thing’… which, unfortunately, fails to earn them a living. Instead, it just becomes a time-consuming hobby.

A website doesn’t have to be complicated. It can just be a few pages, and could take only a few days to set up. But there are certain elements that you must have on it. The main thing is this:

It must be obvious what you want your visitors to do on your website.

One of these purposes should be to put people on your mailing list. From there, you will cultivate a relationship with these people by sending them relevant information on a regular basis.

Instead of having tons of information you give away for free, you should always be offering your free information in exchange for an e-mail address — that is, in exchange for getting people to subscribe to your list.

That’s how you create your most precious asset: a list of people who are interested in hearing what you have to say, and ultimately, in what you have to sell.

Opportunity #3 — Teaching Seminars & Workshops

Teaching seminars and workshops can be a great way to make money in the health field while helping many, many people on a personal level. If you know what you’re doing, you can easily make $5000 to $20,000 or more with just one weekend workshop.

To start giving your own seminars and workshops, you don’t need to be a professional speaker. You just need to get started.

One thing you should do is to attend actual live seminars by people who are very successful at it, and see how you could do the same teaching health.

One of the things you will learn by watching the pros is that a good seminar isn’t about feeding people lots of “data” and “facts” — it’s more about giving people an “experience” — one that will inspire them and help them move forward in their lives.

To achieve this, you need to always be involving the participants in various group exercises, hands-on exercises where they actually apply what they just learned.

Understand that people are “hungry” for that kind of experience and will gladly pay you $500 or more for a weekend workshop. As you get better and better at it, you can easily fill the room with 100 people or more. Well, you do the math…

Conclusion

Among the best things you can do for your health and your life is to make a living with your passion. It can be exhilarating, it can be an incomparable learning experience, and it can (and should) bring you all the money you need and more.

The only thing you need to succeed is enough confidence to take action on a regular basis, and the right tools and knowledge to know what to do so.

You can subscribe to regular e-mail updates on making a living doing what you love. At the moment, I’m offering to the first 500 subscribers a 30-page report on “How to Make a Living in the Natural Health Movement”, which will sell separately later for $30.

Palm Harbor FL Life — Sun, Sand, and Water

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Sun, sand and water – those are the ingredients for a great vacation destination – or a spectacular home town. Palm Harbor, located just about midway down the Gulf Coast of Florida, is both. The unincorporated town has become one of Florida’s fastest growing communities – and with good reason. Palm Harbor’s proximity to Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg give residents easy access to fine dining and big city amenities while preserving the relaxed atmosphere of a small town.

Located on Florida’s Beach just about midway up the Gulf Coast, Palm Harbor is a bustling, prosperous community with a deceptively quaint and charming feel. The area enjoys a special status as an unincorporated town, protecting Palm Harbor real estate from annexation by nearby communities. If you’re looking to buy real estate in Palm Harbor, the community offers a wide range of housing options for singles, couples and families. The many neighborhoods range picturesque historic areas with beautiful traditional homes to contemporary single family and condominium communities with their own beach and lake access and boat slips.

This is the best time in years to buy real estate in Pinellas County, where Palm Harbor is located. After five years of record rises – including a 30% increase from 2004-2005, real estate prices in and around Palm Harbor have dipped slightly and stabilized. Experts project that home values will continue to rise over the next several years, at a much more normal rate. Despite the recent increases in Palm Harbor real estate prices, the average selling cost of new homes in the Palm Harbor area still compares very favorably with home prices in most other Eastern cities.

Palm Harbor offers just about anything you could want in a new home location. The area public schools are part of the Pinellas County school system which is consistently rated above average for the state. The economy is strong and unemployment is below the national average. The area is growing fast, but local constraints are in place to prevent overdevelopment and the resulting loss of the charming small town atmosphere that makes Palm Harbor such a wonderful place to live.

Palm Harbor is also an excellent choice for a second home or vacation rental property. The nearby attractions include long stretches of sandy beaches, nature conservatories and the Pinellas County Hiking Trail. The community offers just about any outdoor sport you can imagine, including golf, boating, parasailing, swimming, hiking, camping and scuba diving. This is the time to take advantage of the low prices and interest rates and invest in Palm Harbor real estate, whether for your own use or as income and rental property. Get in now, before the prices start to rise again.

Images of Irish Nature - Book Review

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

If I ask you to picture some of the world’s great wildernesses chances are that your mind will conjure exotic pictures of the African savannah, the icy polar tundra, lush tropical rainforests or any of a host of far-flung ecosystems that feature regularly on our TV screens.

Compared to these wildlife Meccas, it’s easy to dismiss our little island in the north-east Atlantic as practically insignificant. But to do so would be a mistake. Getting your wildlife fix from the television is no substitute for getting up close and personal with the real thing. Nothing quite compares with getting out into the open and experiencing the wonder of nature first hand.

While Ireland may lack the high levels of biodiversity and some of the more dramatic signature species of more exotic locations, our mix of flora, fauna and habitat is no less unique, every bit as fascinating and, perhaps most importantly, infinitely more accessible. In fact, our wild habitats, plants and creatures are a living, breathing part of our national heritage - and that makes them more significant to us than those found in far off lands.

Anyone out there who doubts that Ireland’s wilderness can be as dramatic, varied and beautiful as anywhere else in the world should take a look at “Images of Irish Nature”, a new book by renowned West Cork wildlife photographer Mike Brown. It’s a publication that unequivocally celebrates the wonder of Ireland’s wild places, plants and animals.

The photography is, quite simply, superb. But then you’d expect nothing less from a photographer of Mike Brown’s calibre (he won the ESB Environmental Photographer of the Year award in 2002, and was named Photographer of the Year by the Irish Professional Photographers’ Association in 2003). The book includes stunning photographs of a wide variety of Ireland’s native wildlife, from common and easily observed species like barn swallows, curlews and foxes to more elusive denizens of our wilderness, like pine martens, barn owls and bats.

Photographing wildlife is, arguably, among the most challenging of photographic disciplines. It’s a painstaking, often frustrating business that takes skill, patience, luck, dedication and, above all, an intimate connection with and understanding of the natural world.

Truly outstanding wildlife photography reveals none of those challenges in the final shot. Images appear effortless, simple and somehow connect with the viewer on a level that transcends a mere moment frozen in time. What’s remarkable about Images of Irish Nature is how many of the photographs in the book seem to achieve that effortless simplicity. Mike Brown demonstrates that he’s at the pinnacle of his profession, well able to hold his own with the very best in the field.

Throughout the book Mike’s photographs are interspersed with informative and thought-provoking essays by some of Ireland’s leading wildlife writers. Gordon D’Arcy reflects on how as a nation we’re becoming disassociated with nature, and how vital it is to rekindle a fascination and understanding of nature and the environment in our children. Richard Collins comments on how local wildlife can be just as intriguing as high-profile species from afar, and introduces us to some examples. Damien Enright takes us on a stroll through the seasons in West Cork, complete with seasonally inspired verse. Juanita Browne introduces us to her favourite class of Irish fauna, the mammals, and ponders the dilemma of reconciling Ireland’s inexorable progress with the pressing need to preserve our natural heritage. Padraig Whooley of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group introduces us to the fascinating world of whale watching, explaining how Ireland now ranks as one of the world’s whale-watching hotspots, and how we can all get involved in cetacean conservation. Finally, Michael Viney takes us beach-coming along Ireland’s tide line, and makes some surprising discoveries along the way.

The writing style of the contributors varies considerably - and I have to say I found certain essays more appealing than others - but on the whole they offer a fitting complement to Mike Brown’s generally exceptional photography.

Perhaps the greatest endorsement of Images of Irish Nature is the Foreword, written by the undisputed patriarch of Irish natural history, Éamon de Buitléar, which he closes thus: “Mike’s ability to produce a constant supply of excellent photographs not only sets high standards for others to follow but his pictures also help to make people more aware of the beauty of Ireland’s countryside and its wildlife.”

High praise indeed, and perhaps that aspect of the book - its wide appeal, its ability to inspire people and to raise awareness of Ireland’s natural history - is its greatest achievement. What more could any wildlife photographer hope for?

Images of Irish Nature is published by Mike Brown Photography, Clarke Street, Clonakilty, County Cork. Copies cost €39.95 and are available in all good bookshops, or direct from the publisher by calling 023 35782 or you can order online at www.mikebrownphotography.com.
